One of the hottest races in August features two Republicans going toe to toe in Michigan's 7th District. The incumbent, establishment candidate Joe Schwarz, is facing off against conservative challenger Tim Walberg in a Republican primary that will be decided next week, on August 8th. Because there is no serious Democratic challenger in the district, the winner of the primary will be going to Congress.
Although Walberg tells me his internal polling has him up, 41-34 over Schwarz, this is an open primary. That means Democrats are allowed to vote and they're expected to heavily favor Schwarz. So, not only does Walberg have to overcome a candidate with all the advantages of incumbency, he has to defeat his democratic allies as well.

Democrats voting Michigan's open primary were the reason that McCain won the MI primary in 2000. The Democrats have a caucus, where the party elite choose the candidates for the peon Democrats.

This is where we change the direction on the party and make our voices known...in the Primary, not the general election.

Rats will cross-over and vote for Schwartz, but when they do they are screwed for voting in any RAT races, you can't split your ticket.
I don't think Rat cross-over will be enough to carry Schwartz, and when they do they will allow a barking moonbat to possibly win the nomination that has no chance to win in November.
For the Rats to cross-over this time, they are juggling chainsaws.

This is one case where the grass roots have the chance. Problem is, there might be crossover Democrats who want Schwarz to win.

With the exception of the state Attorney General race (which isn't high profile), there are no significant Democratic primaries in Michigan this year. So they have the luxury of crossing over.

There are county commission races, judges, mayors, twp. supervisors, etc.
They may not be high profile, but might be important to RATS locally.
I guess we will know Tues if the RAT cross-over was enough to save Schwartz, I hope he gets crushed.

Didn't I see something about liberals getting pissed at Swartz in the last couple of days over some flier?

I don't know, as I'm not from Michigan, but I certainly hope it's true. As long as Tim Walberg wins the primary.
