OKAY HERE'S THE DEAL: We always knew it would be close down to the end. And don't forget that at this point last year I was here telling the nail-biters that Bush would safely carry Virginia even though - up through the closing of the polls, people here thought Kerry would carry Virginia.

But the bottom line is, this is a close race and it will all come down to what we do in the final week.

So...it's time to stop panicking, it's time to stop whining, and it's time to stop sniveling that Jerry isn't "pure" enough on our pet issues.

Anybody who doesn't realize the nightmare that "Governor Kaine" would be is either not paying attention or is likely a troll.

There will never be a candidate that will meet the "purity" test on everyone's pet issues. My attitude has always been as long as they at least lean toward the correct position there will always be hope.

I read at the RTD site that Kilgore was endorsed by their editorial page but couldn't find the column. Did you happen to see it?

Kilgore's raising all that money tells me business hopes and thinks he's going to win. Maybe that's why he was so high at Tradesports.

Oh, out of curiosity, why is it marky mark has like an 80% approval rating according to the washington post. Correct me if im wrong but the only thing marky mark did was raise taxes. I mean yea theres all this presidential hype but allen's getting his fair share of presidential hype and his pproval isnt quite as astronomical as warners.

PLEASE let everyone know that the FINAL Channel 12 / Richmond Times Dispatch poll is now up and running. I have it posted at the Virginia FReeper Profile Page.

They now have all 3 positions available for voting. Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General. The 3 Republicans currently have large leads.

Let's deal the democRATS a psychological blow by increasing the existing leads.

Also, after what the democRATS pulled yesterday in the U.S. Senate, is EVERYONE as fired up to vote straight Republican as I am??? (if not, you truly deserve what you get!!)

This bears repeating! I lived in Richmond under the Kaine administration, and he's a big part of the reason I now live in Louisa county. I shudder to think what he would do to this state.

Republicans plan curbs on illegals
By Keyonna Summers
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
November 2, 2005

Virginia House Republicans, who are facing re-election Tuesday, have outlined plans to bar illegal aliens from receiving state benefits and to give police more power to detain them.

House Speaker William J. Howell, Stafford Republican, said yesterday that lawmakers are making such plans because the estimated 200,000 illegal aliens in Virginia have strained government resources.

"We welcome new members of the American family so long as they abide by our rules," he said. "That's why House Republicans ... are so troubled by the fact that government resources at all levels are being stretched thin dealing with the safety and security issues caused by illegal immigration."

Delegate David B. Albo, Springfield Republican, said he plans to submit legislation to require election officials to verify a resident's citizenship on voter-registration applications. The proposed legislation also would enable police officers to detain illegal aliens during traffic stops if there is a prior offense on the record.

Mr. Albo also wants to require day-labor centers to check the legal status of workers, amending legislation he submitted last year.

Polling Memorandum

To Kilgore for Governor Friends and Supporters

From Ken Hutcheson, Campaign Manager
Virginians for Jerry Kilgore

Date November 4, 2005

Re New Mason-Dixon Poll

As we head into the final weekend before the Election, the race for Governor is a statistical tie and, as we have said before, the race will be won by the campaign that best turns out its supporters on Tuesday.

History demonstrates that Republican statewide candidates finish very strong and on average, achieve a five to six point boost in the final weekend based on superior turnout operations. In fact, in the Washington Post last Sunday, a prominent Democrat opined that for Democrats to win statewide in Virginia, they need to be leading by five or more points heading into the weekend before the Election. That is clearly not the case this year.

The energy out in the field is tremendous and very positive for Jerry. Garnering 44% in the latest Mason-Dixon poll to Kaine’s 45% is a strong indication that Kaine’s attempt to mask his liberal record and extreme views has not worked.

Further inspection of the poll reveals positive trends for us heading into Election Day. The regional breakdowns in this poll suggest that Tim Kaine’s rural strategy has fallen flat and voters in rural Virginia have seen through his cynical charade. Furthermore, Jerry Kilgore leads Tim Kaine’s home region of Richmond. The regional breakdowns are:

Shenandoah Valley    Kilgore 52% to Kaine 39%
Richmond Kilgore 44% to Kaine 42%
Southside Kilgore 51% to Kaine 39%
Southwest   Kilgore 51% to Kaine 40%
Hampton Roads  Kilgore 42% to Kaine 48%
Northern Virginia Kilgore 37% to Kaine 53%

(Note - these regional breakdowns are much more accurate than the flawed and biased Washington Post poll from last Sunday that didn’t even report on two of the regions because the numbers were wrong.)

While it is clear we have our work cut out for us, we are finishing with momentum and strength and a well coordinated final effort will make the difference. We just need your help to get the vote out on Tuesday and then we can all celebrate on Tuesday night. In the meantime, here is an excellent Op-ed piece from today’s Richmond Times-Dispatch that you might want to read and forward to undecided voters you know.

Please also be on the lookout for our next email - we will have a major announcement to make on Friday during the day. Thank you for your dedication and steadfast resolve to win.

Candidates for governor seek to close the sale
By Keyonna Summers
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
November 6, 2005

Republican gubernatorial candidate Jerry W. Kilgore kicked off a daylong, cross-state campaign swing yesterday in Springfield, rallying hundreds of enthusiastic supporters and calling himself a "pro-gun owner, anti-tax, limited government, anti-illegal immigration, pro-public safety, pro-death penalty ... conservative."

Campaigning for the second day with U.S. Sen. George Allen, a former governor, at his side, Mr. Kilgore criticized Democratic opponent Timothy M. Kaine's support of in-state tuition for illegal aliens seeking citizenship.

"He said I was being insensitive when I said you shouldn't use taxpayer dollars to build fancy day-labor sites here in Northern Virginia," Mr. Kilgore told the crowd. "On the issue of illegal immigration, you can't trust Tim Kaine to be governor of Virginia."
