I am truly flabbergast!!! Running in the Pittsburgh Fox market, on Greta Von Sustern's On the Record tonight, was a campaign ad with Michael J. Fox commenting on the need for biomedical research, yadayada...but what stunned me was that it WASN'T for sKerry...it was for snarlin' Arlen Spector. The format is eerily the same as the sKerry spot...now what gives? Bush endorsed Spector (many of us PA R's were quite upset about it...me included) but Spector is running basically the same ad that Kerry is running using the same celeb? Is Arlen, perchance, distancing himself from the President in the swing state of PA? Your thoughts fellow FReepers please...
FYI he's not even an American..........
Michael Andrew Fox was born June 9, 1961, in Edmonton, Alberta (he later adopted the "J" as a tribute to character actor Michael J. Pollard). Since his father, William Fox, was an army official, the family moved around a lot during Michael's early childhood. They settled near Vancouver, British Columbia, when William retired in 1966. About the constantly changing settings, Michael said that an "army brat" must "either find a way to get attention or become a wallflower." Of course, he chose the former.
I saw this ad on the Today show this morning and almost fell out of my chair. When it started my heart sank because I was sure it was a John Kerry ad...but when Fox said "Arlen Specter" I just started laughing. It really is a great ad though.
In this ad Michael J. Fox is calm and not smearing his opponent.
Totally different ballgame than the McCaskill ad.
It's from 2 years ago.
The Arlen Specter ad was from 2 years ago I think. Look - say what you want about the guy but he is fading away for a yojg man with a wife and family...I think he supports anyone who will support stem cell research because he thinks it holds the key to a cure. I honestly feel bad for the him - I'm not so sure stem cell science is everything he thinks it will be. It's too bad.
WHERE THE HELL IS THE RNC RESPONSE TO FOX?
To the absolute best of my knowledge NOTHING AT ALL IS RUNNING IN PA RIGHT NOW featuring Michael J. Fox. However, my mailbox, is filling up. Whew...I thought it was 'an October surprise.'
REPEAT FROM TWO YEARS AGO :)
I blame the Rats who chose to exploit MJF's condition more than MJF himself. Let's face it, Fox is not very rational given his circumstances, but the Rats who authorized this should know better.
Do you (or anyone else, for that matter) know how many ads for stem cell research or bio-medical research Fox made before he found out he had Parkinson's? The reason I ask is quite simple. I shouldn't have to spell it out. I have no problem with someone supporting a cause he has a stake in. It's just that I have a lot more respect for those who champion a cause they *don't* have a stake in.
