www.factcheck.com redirects to www.georgesoros.com
Internet | 10/6/2004 | Tom Richardson

Why is a company called "domain name sales" redirecting inquiries to www.factcheck.com to www.georgesoros.com?

TOPICS: Campaign News; Issues; Parties
KEYWORDS: factcheckcom; factcheckorg; georgesoros
Vice-President Cheney last night mentioned factcheck.com as a source for factual information on Halliburton. He meant to say factcheck.org, which does attempt to put out researched facts on campaign related issues. It turns out that www.factcheck.com is owned by an Internet Domain Name registration company called domainnamesales. They are redirecting all attempts to access www.factcheck.com to www.georgesoros.com. Interesting... They can be contacted through: http://www.domainnamesales.com/ContactUs.php if you'd like to ask them why....

Rush mentioned this today. Cheney said the wrong domain name during the debate! The correct one is .org not .com.

Nope. He said dot com. An hour after the debate, I went to the site he mentioned (factcheck.org) and was floored by the redirect. So I did checked the debate transcripts and did some futher snooping. When I came to the conclusion something smelled fishy, I passed the info on to Drudge, etc. Unfortunately, he didn't pick it up. It was reported 12 hours later by the AP. I was not pleased. Anyhow, the transcripts show Cheney did indeed say dot com.

Danka, RBA. I'm still shiny & new, actually...not even an hour "old" here. I haven't a clue what I'm doing. I'm a bookseller and belong to a VERY liberal email trade list. They never talk about books, though. They just sit around Bush bashing all day long. I'm the lone voice of reason there. So I set out to find a forum that's a bit more sane and ended up here.

I just got to thinking, though....how does one rally troops to freep another venue? I have visions of what that 'other' list might be like for one day if I weren't the only conservative. Wowie. I will repeat: I am not a proficient navigator here yet, so do forgive my ignorance.

How downright neighborly of you. I'll get dinner on, or at very least something that resembles dinner, and will keep an eye out for happenings here.
