As your State Treasurer, Ed Meyer Will:
Restore Trust and Integrity to North Carolina's Government The corruption scandals that have plagued North Carolina government have harmed the trust once held by many citizens in their elected officials. As a Reagan Republican, Ed Meyer will bring the highest sense of trust and integrity to State government.
- Ed Meyer will not accept campaign contributions from the executives or employees of the companies that manage government employee pension funds for which the State Treasurer is a fiduciary.
- Ed Meyer will bring a high level of disclosure of Treasurer Office operations and investments to the State Legislature and the State Auditor.
- Ed Meyer has built a legal career fighting fraud and abuse in government programs.
- Ed Meyer has an exemplary reputation among his legal colleagues, according to the largest attorney rating agency in the country.
Encourage Investment in North Carolina
The decisions of the State Treasurer have a major impact on North Carolina's economy. Ed Meyer understands that every dollar placed in the Treasury or into government employee pension funds is a dollar that was once freely flowed through North Carolina's economy. As your State Treasurer, Ed will:
- Seek greater investment in North Carolina's economy, consistent with his fiduciary role and prudent investment decisions;
- Encourage those companies that do business with the Office of Treasurer to invest in North Carolina;
- Seek competitive bidding when awarding major contracts, to obtain the best deal for North Carolina taxpayers; and
- Institute a strict conflicts of interest policy so that investment decisions are made in the best interest of North Carolinians.
Protect the State Employee Pension Funds
Ed Meyer is the son of a retired public schoolteacher. The State Treasurer is the sole fiduciary for State employee pension funds and the pension funds of many county employees. Ed Meyer understands that these funds must be kept secure.
- Ed Meyer will not accept campaign contributions from the executives or employees of the companies that manage State or county employee pension funds for which the State Treasurer is a fiduciary.
- Ed Meyer will fight any attempt by the State Legislature to borrow from the State or county employee pension funds.
- Ed Meyer believes that the State must make its annual contribution to these pension funds and maintain their actuarial soundness.
Address the Health Care Crisis
The skyrocketing cost of health insurance and over-regulation of the health care industry are a major concern of Ed . Health care expenditures are the largest portion of North Carolina's State Budget. Ed will bring to the Council of State over 15 years of experience in working through the complexities of health care law and finance. This experience includes:
- Serving in the Reagan Administration as an appointee to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
- Working as Legislative Assistant for Medicare and Tax issues to Ways and Means Committee Member, Philip M. Crane (R-IL).
- Advising physicians, hospitals, and health care finance executives on some of the most complex state and federal health care issues.
Ed currently serves as the Secretary-Treasurer of the North Carolina Society of Health Care Attorneys.

NC Ping request. Ed Meyer seems like a pretty decent guy. Pro-life Catholic, Reagan Republican, lives in Greensboro. Running against Richard Moore for State Treasurer.
