Not to mention it was not a fastball. If Pedro was headhunting, you'd have thought he'd have used a fastball. But that's just me.

Spare me. Even Pedro's teammates don't believe he was innocent.

virago \vuh-RAH-go; vuh-RAY-go\, noun: 1. A woman of extraordinary stature, strength, and courage. 2. A woman regarded as loud, scolding, ill-tempered, quarrelsome, or overbearing.

Wow, a Red Sox fan can use a dictionary. I'm so impressed!

Then you didn't see the same video I saw of the play over and over.

Beautiful. Thank you.

Pedro's teammates

Do you have a link to some quotes?

Are you going to respond to my plea for Yankee fans to admit that the NYY contributed to the violence yesterday?

Another fine catch from the rule book.

And a great tagline to boot! LOL

I always liked that picture, and I like Don Zimmer, too. He's a real baseball guy. I have his book.

He is getting on in age, though.

How about a chocolate frappe and a grinder?

Anyone can be a Yankee fan. It requires no effort or loyalty whatsoever

A common sour grapes comment I hear all the time. I've liked the Yankees since being a kid - even before I knew all the history, etc. Mickey Mantle was my first awareness of a sports hero.

Boston fans just have it in their craw, I guess, but trying to dismiss Yankee fandom ain't gonna fix that.

LOL - How the hell did it go from cabinet to frappe in the 40 short miles between Providence and Boston, or Providence and Worcester (that's Wis-tuh to you non-New Englanders).

Nelson and Garcia shouldn't have beaten up that Southie. That was a bad thing, indeed.

Zimmer shouldn't have charged Pedro, but there is a long history involving Posada. It's complicated and I don't have the documentation, just an e-mail from a friend who remembered some stories he was told in winter league. Let's just say Posada and Pedro don't like each other.

Doesn't justify Zim's actions, but I'm better aware of the context.

Give Clemens some credit for staying in control and Jeter for keeping his players calm.

long history involving Posada.

You are the first to mention Posada, and I thought through the whole thing that he was more enraged than anyone else on the field or in either dugout.

He does have a temper problem, but then a lot of those guys (on both teams) do too. I'd love to know what you know about him, if it's something you can tell.

Oh and I meant to add that you are absolutely right: there should be a lot of credit given to most of those players on the field for not letting it turn into a free-for-all.

This could have been so much worse.

Posada/Martinez hate for the other began years ago during winter league play.

There's more, but I would rather not go into it since it is only third-hand stories and speculation.

Zimmer's role is that he's close to Posada's father, and also is sensitive to headhunting.

Sottolmeyer gets a lot of credit for calming Roger down.

Jeter did an amazing job. Posada, Wells, Giambi and Nelson, had he seen Zim go down, would have done a Rivers/Nettles/Pinella on Pedro (Bill Lee).
