Md. First Lady: She Would 'Shoot Britney Spears'
WKMG-TV/DT Orlando ^ | 10.7.03

FREDERICK, Md. -- A spokeswoman for Maryland's first lady, Kendel Ehrlich, says the governor's wife made an "inadvertent figure of speech" last Friday when she spoke about shooting singer Britney Spears.

Ehrlich was speaking at a domestic violence prevention conference at Frederick's Hood College when she commented on the need to educate young women so they won't be dependent on others.

In remarks taped by WFMD Radio, the first lady said, "If I had an opportunity to shoot Britney Spears, I think I would."

"As a working mother raising a 4-year-old son, the first lady has concerns about the negative influences that the entertainment industry can have on young children and teenagers," said Ehrlich's spokeswoman Meghann Siwinski in a statement on Tuesday. "During a public appearance, she inadvertently used a figure of speech to express those concerns."

Ehrlich has declined, through her spokeswoman, to comment further.

Kendel Ehrlich is a breath of fresh air here in our little socialist community. I will cut her a lot of slack on this one - in fact I've even used the phrase myself - "I'd like to shoot (her, him, them). Only the left will try to make hay with this one; most will understand this, within context.

I think that's J. Lo from Esquire.

J-Lo was last month. That's Britney from the new issue that went on sale this week.

Didn't Spears make a public comment in support of Bush recently? Or was she mis-quoted?

Yes, she did come out in support of the President and the war on terror. Of course, the leftists in the media and entertainment were very quick to dummy up about it...

Ironic isn't it that she was speaking at a domestic violence prevention conference when she made a very violent threat to shoot an indidivual? Methinks that young Brittany, a product of Louisianna, might be a little more knowledgeable about bullet launchers that the liberal from Maryland.

For crying out loud... GET OFF it!! Enough already!! (which isn't a sexual comment.. but a figure of speech!!)

I've said I could JUST SHOOT my own Mom before!! It is a figure of speech. I would NEVER shoot my mother!! I love her TO DEATH!! Which doesn't mean I want her DEAD!! It is a figure of SPEECH!!!!

GOOD LORD.. (which is also a figure of speech, but also happens to be true!!)

I leave you with this, READ ON:

Subject: Mourning the loss of an "Old Friend"

Obituary:

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend by the name of "Common Sense" who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valued lessons as "knowing when to come in out of the rain", "why the early bird gets the worm" and that "life isn't always fair".

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge). His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.

Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student only worsened his condition.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Finally, Common sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, spilled bit in her lap, and was awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by two stepbrothers; My Rights and Ima Whiner.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

I recently moved from the People's Republic of Maryland to Virginia, confident that the politics would suit me better in Virginia. Shortly thereafter, Maryland elected a Republican governor and Virginia elected a Democrat governor. Go figure.

And I repeat, I live in the People's Republic of Maryland and anything that looks a slam of "gay rights" or the "gay lifestyle" isn't gonna go over well with the local media here.

Kendel should have known better. I have an 8 3/4 year old daughter and completely understand the sentiment. One way to help counter it is to keep the television OFF! Hard to do with kids that age, but the more its off, the less the filth is available for them to ingest.

I understand your point. My point is that we live in a hypersensitive State in hypersensitive times with a hyperpolitically correct media.

If one goes making statements with the word "shoot" in them, one must be prepared to back them up. This is the state that has a lot of folks in Handgun Control, Inc. etc. etc.
