I was absent from the boards for two full months (went on a long hiking trip). Nobody missed me. Maybe I wasn't provocative enough. On a forum with over 100,000 members, though, I can see how one person might slip away unnoticed.

Still, there are days I envy the posters that have achieved renown, whether good or bad. The kind where, when my screen name is cited, people think "Oh, he's the guy who..."

Does anyone out there ever wonder how many people truly remember their contributions to FR? Maybe it's a low self-esteem on my part. I guess it's better to be unheralded than famous for some negative reason.

We all get to know posters by following certain topics. A few years back, I used to follow the WOD (War on Drugs)threads. Kevin Curry and CJ used to post on those threads constantly. They were excellent debates, most of which CJ and KC won, IMHO.

Most (52%?) of the other 100,000 posters I might recall by name, but not by their particular views.

Given an opportunity, I could probably ping about 200 posters by memory. A few years back, on a long train ride, I tried to write down as may names as I could remember. The total came to about 110. Many of those were names which have now been inactive for years.
