Vietnam Vet



IN THE 1960'S OUR COUNTRY CALLED
HER SONS AND DAUGHTERS ONE AND ALL.
TO A TINY COUNTRY ACROSS THE SEA
TO HELP THE PEOPLE BE FREE.
IN THE JUNGLE SO TALL AND GREEN,
TO FIGHT AN ENEMY OFTEN UNSEEN.
MOST EVERYONE SAW THEIR BUDDIES FALL
THEY DIED AS HEROES AND GAVE THEIR ALL.
WE GAVE OUR BLOOD, OUR SOULS,
MORE THAN ANYONE WILL EVER KNOW.
WE FOUGHT A WAR NOT ALLOWED TO WIN,
BUT IF ASKED TO WE WOULD DO IT AGAIN.
OUR GOVERNMENT SENT US TO THIS PLACE,
WE CAME BACK HOME THEIR WORST DISGRACE.
TO A TIME OF PROTEST IN OUR LAND,
BUT ALL WE DID WAS MAKE A STAND.
OUR COUNTRY SHUNNED US FROM HER GRACE,
HOW WILL WE EVER FIND OUR PLACE?
WE'VE TRIED AND TRIED, BUT WE HAVEN'T YET,
BUT WE WONT GIVE UP
CAUSE WE'RE JUST VIETNAM VETS.

We'll never be able to right the wrongs done to our Vietnam Veterans. Sad. We can only thank them now and hope it isn't too little too late.

I'm glad I came to the thread. Good find. I was a Viet Nam Era Vet, (served stateside 72-76), I reserve the term Viet Nam Vet for those who went over there. But I experienced the public reaction to men in uniform firsthand. It was deplorable. I didn't have to add the trauma of real war to that. I wrote a poem about Viet Nam many years ago as a therapeutic excercise. I can not find it. I need to write a new one. It will be my next serious project. Believe it or not I do get serious on occasion.
