I need help with a wine selection. I am at Trill's this weekend helping with a garage sale, so I get to really cook with an oven and everything...
Menu is: beef roast braise with mushroom rissotto and asparagus and corn salad. Trill's favorite wine is Beringer's Zinfandel. She hasn't like most reds that I've selected. If it's too dry, or has too much tannin, or is overly complex it's not for her.
Please don't recommend MadDog. ;>)

Please don't recommend MadDog.I wasn't. Night Train is much better. If it was made in the last 2 weeks, it has an excellent bouquet. ;^)

Try a Penfolds Shiraz....from Australia

Hmmm....if Trill's favourite wine is Beringer Zinfandel, then one has to ask oneself: "Self, why don't I get Beringer Zonfandel???"
But I think a Zin is too fruity for what you are making. Therefore I suggest either a very good cabernet sauvignon or a fairly good bordeaux....
So, if you have the bucks, go for Stag's Leap or their cheaper label, Hawk's Crest, cab.
If you want a cheaper, good Zin, try Rabbit Ridge Zin -- it's pretty good...
