That poem touched me ...... maybe because I have been working on my genealogy. It reminded me of the treasures I've found in boxes, albums and trunks. Finding post cards written by family members is so special.

I've seen too many discarded heirlooms mouldering in old bookstores.
Along with old photos of people that no-one remembers the names of.
'Anonymous' doesn't begin to describe them, the nameless legions of faces staring out from old sepia prints.
I'm one of those annoying people who needs to place information with a thing, what it is and why it is.
Thankfully, it doesn't come through in my writing.

I have been working on a book that goes back into the 1800´s and is based on the lives of my two grandmothers who each raised three children on their own during the depression. Their stories were tragic in their own ways, but nonetheless tragic. I would like people to know about the women during those hard times who survived each day, spent summers sleeping on parkbenches so they could afford shelter in the winter. Winter shelter was often simple walls with no heat in the coldest part of the country. I see lazy people who whine and complain about not getting enough welfare and I wonder how people are expected to develop character when nothing is expected of them.
Hmmmm.....that came out of your comments about working on family history! Good for you! And I hope you write it all down in detail for future generations.
