I'm of the mind that some of the people behind Wag The Dog were quite well aware of what Bill Clinton had been up to. Remember, he opened the White House to Hollywood. Additionally, the Newsweek story had been researched for awhile before an editor killed the story.

The production schedule was something like 6 weeks which to me seems quite short for a film with A-list names.

I don't think that they necessarily wanted to beat the Monica story to the street but I think that they wanted to have a film ready to cash in on the scandal.

While I've seen some real stinkers in my time, the absolute worst movie I've ever seen would have to be Natural Born Killers. No redeeming values whatsoever, and while I'm not shy about violent movies, this was almost pornographic in its glorification of murder.
