It's every which way but loose at this point.
It's being taken very seriously here on the shore - and some of the people I talked to today have been on the shore for a couple generations.
It basically comes down to - prepare for the worst and pray for the best.
We're gonna get hit with wind and rain - no way around that.
The question now is how much of each.

Oh, okay-the beer was just shaken up and not spilled. That makes the incident an inconvenience rather than a tragedy..

I am following the hurricane tracking map, and they still don't seem to agree where landfall is going to be. But based on the predictions, batten down the hatches, and count on wind and rain.

Yup.
As I said, I worded it wrong. It was just beer CANS on the floor - in the midst of all the ice and melted ice.
My kitchen floor is finally dry.
One good thing came out of the incident, though. I've had a comforter tossed in the corner of the laundry room for weeks that I need to take to the cleaner/laundromat (it's too big for my machine)I threw that on the kitchen floor to sop up some of the water. It's on the lineoutside now - but I have no choice but to take it to be cleaned tomorrow!!!!

I'm not following the tracking map.
I keep an eye on the weather channel, my local news and the hurricane threads on FR.
But I'm paying the most attention to the people who have lived in this area for years and years and sometimes generations. I've learned an awful lot from them in the past few days.

That happened to me last week when the dogs turned over a bucket of water I was using to water the indoor plants-I had a couple of throw rugs on the floor of the utility room tossed beside the washer, and they got drenched, so I had to wash and hang them out. Probably worked out for the best.

FoxNews had a pic of Izzy's eye, taken by one of our astronauts in the Space Station. It was an amazing shot.

The longtime residents are the ones to listen to-they've been there, done that and got a t-shirt. Those up here are predicting a very cold winter, maybe with snow that sticks. I'm ready!

And we all WILL get through it.
I've been thinking about your concern with the neighbor's trees. Far be it from me to tell anyone what to do (most especially lawyers) but it might not be a bad idea to take some pictures around that side of the house and specifically of the trees. If one of them does come down........................
With buying the new house and doing all the outside work, I've got tons of pictures, so if someting were to happen during this storm - I 've got ample proof of what it looked like before!!!!

Are you flirting on the internet again? Jeez....can you get me a beer?
To: Texan5
In your case probably it did turn out for the best.
I was not intending to head to where the particular cleaner I've got to take the thing to is - it's 25 miles in the opposite direction of the other things I need to do tomorrow. Granted I get great mileage on my vehicle - but an added 50 miles is not something I wanted to do - I was hoping to not have to top off my tank again.

ACK - I missed it.
I'm sure I'll catch it later - but I don't have a TV in this room.

I've learned a bunch from them.
One thing I was told was after I have all my laundry done - to fill the washer with water. Use that water as back up for flushing and/or dishes.
