For those in northern temperate latitudes: at this time of year, M8 sets early. You need to get out around 9 PM Daylight time and look for it in the WSW sky. At my latitude (45 degrees) it is about 20 degrees above the horizon.

Needless to say, city lights to your south will wash out the nebula. Even haze/humidity may mean using binoculars to find it.
