This is probably a regional thing, but is owning an El Camino a weird thing in other places? Here it is a "cult car", when it is tweaked as a muscle car, and has a lift kit and cool paint job, especially among those of us of Mexican ancestry. Ours is totally un-stock, has a custom paint job and hot stock Mustangs are it's favorite lunch. What do people do with them in your state? Are they like, as Gallagher said in one of his routines "Rusting Impalas driven by undocumented third world refugees?

you don't see many of them around these parts, and it would no doubt be an illegal alien or a redneck that had one. vans,SUVs, honda accords, durangos, are the most common vehicles here.

Didn't Bill Clinton own one of those in his youth, with astroturf in the back...

Here they are usually low riders with booming music you can hear from a half mile away. When it's not a booming lowrider, it's usually a bit broken down and filled with 20 illegals carpooling to work. (we have a chicken slaughter house here that hires mostly illegals because the locals are "too good" to work in a slaughter house apparently.. or maybe just too expensive)

Plenty of El Caminos and Rancheros here. I call them bad cars and lousy trucks. Tricked out even a Yugo could be cool. I haven't had a muscle car since my 67 GTO, which I owned in 73. I like to drive too much to own a high octane gas hog. I does like customs but only in your driveway or garage.

stock El-camino's are very common here.

un-stock, such as you describe - are called pimp-mobiles.
