Hahaha. Such foolish things you say. Nothing is preventing you from developing anything you want and selling it. GPL'd software is about FREEDOM u dummy. The freedom to take the software and use it any way u see fit. I seriously doubt Free Republic could afford to use Microsoft products to run this site. It's probably using Apache(FREE). With a MySQL(FREE) backend. And I know it's using some PERL(FREE). And the guy who runs this site doesn't have to renew licenses every year or anything like that. You can't seriously be a software developer and say the things u do.

Oh, And another thing he doesn't have to worry about because of all the FREE software he's using is all those pesky virii that keep messing with Microsoft users. :P Stick that in yer pipe and smoke it.

I like your suggestion for replacing single-seat licensing with site licensing. Other than that, I fail to see how the the GPL can be "communistic" in the absence of government-imposed coercion. Right now, proprietary and open-source software exist in open competition. Let the market, not SCO's batallions of lawyers, determine which one wins.

And what does all that irrelevant meandering about sex and religion have to do with writing code and deploying apps?

Hey...the OS is the paper and pencil of the 21st century..which means it needs be cheap, reliable and readily available to the world. Linux is it by those criteria. The applications...well some will write theirs', some will share theirs', and most of us will gladly pay for well written, reliable apps that help us out and don't abuse our privacy and security in doing so. Get over it.
