Well, I'll just add that the Chicago Public school system,
and the University of Missouri didn't prepare me well enough for this test.

Although, according to the norms set for the grading system
of todays students, I may have just squeaked by....LOL

Well, I think I can pronounce most of the words, but that's about it. It makes the thought of college finals even more terrifying.

One of my favorite book series is the Anne of Green Gables books. Just reading what those students were expected to do in the early 1900s told me that I wasn't getting a very good education in the 60s-80s.

All this in a time before high schools became detention centers and colleges trade schools.

I know I learned most of the items included on the test, including the argricultural ones, but I sure can't answer them now!

You are correct about having an eighth grade education being considered "well-educated" at the time. My paternal grandmother used to lord it over my maternal grandmother since she made it through the eighth grade and the later only went to sixth.

On the other hand, I think a few questions such as "what is a "Do Loop", what is a computer program, What voltage is common household electricity, and how does a flush toilet work would be needed to update the test today. Throw in some rules about driving, aircraft, internal combustion engines, electronic cash registers, measurement using metric units, and 100 years of modern historical experience.

I am amazed that anyone cares about use of Capital Letters, or rules for analysis of poetry. Epochs of history are arbitrary. All history is one, or all history is infinite, any division other than those two are arbitrary, and subject to change according to the styles of the day.

Lincoln said in 3 years he picked up all the mathmatics that he ever posessed, "Ciphering, fractions, and the rule of 3" which was what they called proportions.

Imagine, he would be completely at sea given a simple linear differential equation.
