A Question if I May? (need posting/HTML help)
none ^ | Aug 28, 2003 | Myself

Posted on 08/28/2003 12:21:18 PM PDT by Michael.SF.

I know the basics of HTML and how to post pics and make links etc.

But how can I post a picture which is saved on my computer and have it appear in the post?

If I try to copy it, when I try to post it in "body of post" the "paste" function is gray and thus not usable.

Thanks in advance to all who offer help.

You can't. It has to be on a server to be accessed.

The picture you want to post has to be on a website, not just on your computer.

If you know some HTML you write the code for an image like so:

<IMG SRC="http://www.freerepublic.com/images/frlogo.gif">

This produces the image in the web browser:

If you have what's called a "static IP address" and a nice, fat upload pipeline to the internet, you can serve the image up directly from your computer.

But if you're a typical broadband user (with a NON-static IP and comparatively tiny upload pipe), it's more practical to post the image to a server better suited to that purpose.

Thanks. That was the confirmation I was looking for, as I had more or less figured out that it was not possible, but then I am not that good with computers, so I may have been missing something.

Does there exist intermediate "holding areas" where a pic can be posted, or sent as a jpg, and then accessed on line by those who do not have websites?

If not, maybe a good idea for someone to try it.

I too know jack squat about computers. Many ISPs provide you with server space for just such things and for making personal web pages. And there are some companies out there that let you store images on their serves for free. Who they are I do not know. I also know that some of them don't allow remote linking of the images so they won't show up on FR if you use them.
