Check out the
story I just posted from our local paper. It calls teachers salaries "low" and says they start out at an average of over $43k/year for about 50 hours a week of work. That's over $10k/y more than the hubby gets at his job and he works more hours. I'm so sick of their whining. The diversity whining is annoying as well.

don't get me started on pub school teachers (Catholic school teachers are an entirely different story). they make decent $ AND they have the summer off to take other jobs, tutoring etc. They claim to be professional but then b!tch about having to grade papers, take work home etc. TOUGH! all professionals do work at home beyond the work day. Don't ask to be treated as a professional if you want to punch a time clock and be paid overtime.

Many of our friends used to be teachers, but two went into real estate sales last year, one opened a restaurant, along with his wife, also an ex-teacher, and two more, a husband and wife are going to teach at a Catholic school after their contracts with the school district expire at the end of the school year. Three of them are white, two are of Mexican ancestry and one is black. None of them left because of the pay. They left because they were not allowed to teach kids the way they used to, and they felt discriminated against by the school districts and their liberal co-workers because they are all conservative. One of them had been teaching for over 30 years, and none has taught for less than 20.
