I once read 3 of my poems to a convention crowd of telecom weinies about 3,000 or so in Dallas in 1989. The work was on a telecom theme and I got 3 standing ovations. Then I did my 15 minute dog and pony show. Afterward I received more than a few drinks and a few poemist groupie invitations (I took the drinks and graciously turned down the poemist groupies). The attention is intoxicating as was the Jack Daniels. It reminded me of the band I had in the early 70s when I was in the USAF. Women go nuts over singers and musicians. We were all married and I kind of preferred to have someone like me for my humor and wit rather than my singing voice. We packed the house every weekend out in Wichita, Kansas home of the 3.2 beer. My keyboard player and my lead guitarist were killed in a car accident the rest of us lost interest after that and went back to our home states after serving. I got too busy raising kids and never tried to get back into it.

Went to a figure drawing and poetry day near where I live.
Did some excellent sketches, wandered for a bit, and almost got picked up (literally) by a grup of female artists at the same gig as I.
*chuckle*
The missus got mildly peeved, but I did tell her what the day entailed before we got there.

Someday I'll have to scan the best image out of that group of sketches.
Not that it's fit for public show or anything.
