I can't STOP this thing!

*under ottoman's stomping feet*
I can't stop it either!

A poem by a friend. She doesn't think she has
much talent, but I encouraged her to stick with
it anyway as poetic talent gets better with time.
I also offered her the opportunity to look around
here, to see what she thought. As you can see by
the poem below, she writes the free flowing type.

oh to the days when we were young
without a care in the world or a time to move on.
it seemed that we had all the time we needed.
it seemed that things could rarely get better
oh to those days which are long gone
now we say goodbye to our times of fun and games
while saying good day to times of work and pay.
no more do we dream of princes and dragons
or of mighty rescuers
no more do we look at things with the eyes of a child
it is all gone, done, and over with
as we grow we forget our childish times of happiness
of chasing bugs and jumping into leaves
of heroes and magic
of what we wanted to be.

How 'bout that

On this day they say I was born
I took my first breath, late one morn.

I grew up during some national trouble & strife
oblivious to it, in my, quiet suburban life.

A man named Kennedy came to Camelot,
and the world changed a bit after he was shot.

Many of our young men went off to a foreign land
to prevent communism in a place called Vietnam

As they walked on the moon, I watched in awe
at the marvels of space travel on TV I saw.

With flags 'a-waving' we celebrated with glee
at 200 years of our beautiful country.

When a man named Reagan begun to Preside.
I took to the polls with an 18 yr old pride.

Marriage and struggles followed me then
while God worked in me as only He can.

A child arrives, though 10 days late
shortly before a madman invaded Kuwait.

A man named Bush, sent our troops to war.
We kicked butt and that was for sure.

When a boy named Clinton got really wild,
the Lord blessed us with another Child.

After 8 years of "him" we truly did cheer
when from the smoke another Bush did appear.

On 9/11 we lost almost 3000 people,
and flags waved from rooftops and steeples.

Our president again, was forced into battle
our troops rounded up terrorists like they were cattle.

Now 40 years later, it seems I have to say,
Yes, it is for me, another Birthday.

By Dave K.
(aka Johnny Gage)

Johnny gave me permission to post his Birthday poem here, he's trying to finish up a project (Me thinks so he can celebrate)

She'll probably appreciate the compliment.
I don't think she gets many from those who
should be encouraging her. She informed me
that was her best poem. I haven't gotten to
read any of her other works yet, but I'm sure
they're not as bad as she thinks.

I'll do that. I plan on giving her a link to
this thread, so she can see what she thinks.
I couldn't get her here before, 'cause she's
not very political, but since the DF Lair has
no politics, I told her there shouldn't be
anything to make her uncomfortable. I don't
know if she'll stay around though.

LOL. I forgot about Ms Feather's Place.

We're gonna win Twins
We're gonna score
We're gonna win Twins
Watch that baseball soar!
Knock out a homerun
Shout a-hip-hooray!
Cheer for the Minnesota Twins today!

Twins 3 - Yankees 1

1 down 2 to go!

Introduce her to cap keys. Good work but we only grow old if we chose. I will be 50 in Jan and kids love me because I have never quit being a kid and never will. Life is a wonder and a miracle and don't miss the present thinking about the past. I tell people I'm 8 years old with 41 years of experience at it.

So your toes get tired
and you work with bent knees
is this a prayful pose?

My heart aches on occasion
when I allow someone to get
to the quick of me
in trust the knife is turned
in my back and I bleed...
