I think DirecTV owns Dish now, or vice-versa. Anyway, we had DirecTV for a good while and liked it. Good channel selection, nice picture quality. The only thing bad was that they kept calling us trying to sell us bigger programming packages, but they stopped calling when we told them to. :)

No, the merger never went through.

I vote for Dish though. To the best of my knowledge, DirecTV doesn't have the recordable hard drive without an extra monthly fee. When we last inquired, you could buy one, and then you have to pay (I think) $10 a month extra to use it. We bought ours from Dish, and no extra fees.

These PVRs are a great way to watch teevee. Some evenings, we don't see a single commercial. Just start the show a few minutes late (about 15 or so) and zap every commercial.
