Thanks in advance here.
I moved two weeks ago to my new apartment, and I found the cable provider is the same company my last one was. I don't like Comcrap...I mean...comcast, so cable is out the window.
Which is the better way to go? Direct TV or Dish Network. I'm on the fence right now. Thanks.

Most people will not have tried both services. I chose DirecTV.
Calling TimeWarner to tell them to shove their crappy cable service was a lifetime highlight clip.

At our last place, we had the Dish, and Bacon and Hap have DirecTV (or maybe it's the other way around). We all love our dishes, no matter the maker. (I miss mine . . . damn free Warner cable.)

I really like Dish Network, but I have heard that they may be merging with Direct TV?
AVOID Primestar! Expensive, not as many channels and SLOW to add on new ones as they are created.
Good luck!

We've had DishNetwork for about 2 1/2 years, and have been very happy with it. The customer service has been very good, the two times we needed help with something. So far, the signal has been excellent during storms, which I've heard can be a problem. I can't say how it compares to DirectTV, but I'm sure others will have some comments about that.

we use dishnetwork. Really like it.
My advice would be to look at the prices and packages offered by both and go with the one that offers you the most of what you want for the least money.
Speed is included in the basic package for dish, if you're into racing, not sure if direct tv has it in that package.
We have not had problems with billing or changing programming, so they do have their act together in that area to. Reception is great except during downpours and power outages. :)

No, the merger never went through.
I vote for Dish though. To the best of my knowledge, DirecTV doesn't have the recordable hard drive without an extra monthly fee. When we last inquired, you could buy one, and then you have to pay (I think) $10 a month extra to use it. We bought ours from Dish, and no extra fees.
These PVRs are a great way to watch teevee. Some evenings, we don't see a single commercial. Just start the show a few minutes late (about 15 or so) and zap every commercial.

Dennis Miller advertises for Direct TV. Since he is a conservative now...I would go with them!

You are wrong. We do not lease any equipment from Dish. Never did. We own it outright.

Until Bravo got bought by NBC, it was a pretty damn good channel. Now, unfortunately, NBC just uses it as a proving ground for some of its more questionable new shows.
I really liked "Inside the Actor's Studio," but now that's just become a promotional shill for NBC. They had Jay Leno on the other day--Jay Leno? So, yeah.
That aside, "Queer Eye" is actually a fairly entertaining show, if you like that type of genre--fashion, home decor, etc.

My husband knows more about this than I do, but you should check this out before you get either.
We have Direct TV and it has 2 tuners. You can record on one of the tuners and watch TV on the other one. You can also record 2 shows at the same time.
I think that is the main reason why he picked Direct TV over Dish Network.
The following I definitely know about. I love the Direct TV. We've had great reception and lots of channels. It certainly is much better than cable.

Directv since 2000..never a problem. Blizzard conditions might 'temporarily' cease programming; but my remote switches to antennae in the attic. You have the option of a combo dish for pc and tv as well. Directv allows you to place your tuner anywhere in the home (hidden away) for use with your remote if more than one tv. Those with the dish I know were not given that option and have to 'point' to the tv from within the room.

Now that I think of it, it was TRIO, a channel that has a show called Studio 54 or 57 or something like that...I remember John Prine did an hour that was great...called my bro but he couldn't get it. I bet Dish gets BRAVO also...so take your pick. :{)

Hughes owns DirecTV & Newscorp owns EchoStar (DISH).

After four years of not watching TV, I finally broke down and got Dish Network out of consideration for my wife.
We chose Dish over Direct TV based upon the channels we wanted. Your tastes might be different.
Even with 50 channels, we still find that many evenings there is nothing we want to watch.
