I agree about counting stitches.

Most of the afghans I have made, I have made up the pattern myself, either before or as I went along!!!

I'm guilty, as well. I started this one with a simple square pattern, but I decided it looked boring, so I changed it by putting retangular bands around the squares, and a diagonal row at each corner. It does look better than what I originally planned.

That's what I do on afghans too. Then if I get bored doing the same stitch or color, I can always switch something around in it to make it interesting again.
