i found the Remnant really kind of slow. i actually put that down and forgot it for quite awhile and just picked it up again when i saw and bought Armageddon. armageddon has been much more gripping, i started it the other night. and if my eyes had not been closing last night, i would have finished it.

i feel bad for hobbes. have no idea how he will get home. not unlike 9/11 when he was stranded there. stranded and HOT, not fun. not much better for mrs hobbes to be home w/o him, no electricity (i assume) and 3 kids.

We're talking about how long before that dang movie gave us whiplash trying to hold our heads up.

Armageddon was much more intense. Also, I found myself really annoyed with several of the characters for their blatant carelessness (that led to being captured or killed or both). The final installment should be good, but I'm curious to see how the authors will match the intensity and suspense since so much has already been wrapped up by the end of this book.

He said if they don't come back by tomorrow, he is considering laying off their staff. The absent senators are whining "unfair", and saying he should not punish their workers for actions that were not theirs. Hey, maybe their staff members will realize what selfish ass***s they work for, who put their tantrums before their staff members' jobs.

My hubby isn't allowed to get anything but the bread, milk or coffee any more, either. The few times he "helped" by grocery shopping because I had to work late, he came home with large bags of pretzels, beer, microwave popcorn, frozen pizza and pistachio nuts. Which adds up to plenty of fat and carbohydrates, but no real nutritional value otherwise, so he just can't do it any more.

Well, it isn't a very big job, but I still hope I get it-I really need the money. I don't feel like I am carrying my weight, since there hasn't been much work to be had lately, particularly for a woman in this trade. Half the people I deal with think I am a dyke, especially the men, because of the work I do-and I wear makeup and perfume and jewelry and I have long hair! Hubby says as long as I keep the house and cook good meals, he is happy, and while I appreciate that very much, I like to have my own money that I made.

Actually, it could be the other way around. Con-ed is running on the edge, loses a key component of its system. This causes power to route itself through Niagra Mohawk's grid to other lines leading into NYC. Those lines trip, causing a cascading outage in the city.

Once the city loses power, the system's generation overspeeds due to the loss of load, causing generators to trip off line through their protective relaying. Generators trip in the most inopportune places, possibly including Cleveland, Detroit, Ottowa, and Toronto. The loss of generators causes more overloads and those overloaded lines in turn trip causing more loss of load.

The gyrations continue for a few minutes until everything interconnected is dead, or the load/supply equation achieves something close to equallibrium. That appears to be what happened, as although we saw frequency disturbances in the south, there are no major outages in this part of the country and we in Tennessee are rather tightly connected to the rest of the eastern grid.

I tend to agree.

you are right. it almost seemed like they needed to kill someone off and both of those situations seemed out of character somewhat and forced. why THEN did they get caught and killed. i agree. i kept waiting for there to be a plot twist and for the second one to not actually happen, but for it to be someone else unexpectedly. no such luck.

i can see how you would feel that way. even on maternity leave (and i took 3, each for 2 years), i didn't feel comfortable not bringing any $ in. even though xshub outearns me by a huge margin, i would not be comfortable not working at all. it is impt to me to feel that i could be self sufficient if i had to.

i would imagine it would be hard in your field to get jobs as a woman. maybe more so, in a smaller town. i think up here people might get into it, actually.

Flurry, ELP is Cyber's all time favorite group. He has everything, and I mean everything, written by them. He even has the old albums.

Our wedding song was a song of theirs. "I am me. You are you. We are us." Love that song. It's only on an old album, though.

Lost power at eork. Went to drink the beer before it warmed at the local bar. Then went home. Luckily I live south of the BIG City and never lost power at home.

Have you heard from W or Tiger? This outage may last through the night in some areas. Mayor Bloombooger said the smoke from ConEd on 14th Ave. was the result of ConEd shutting down. It is normal for smoke plumes to come from the building.

Why don't I trust that guy?
