A sheepdog has carried a baby two miles from a remote field where it was abandoned to his owner's home.

Police in Raducaneni, Lasi county, Romania say the dog discovered the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes.

Detectives say they have found the exact place where the child was left, after finding traces of blood and clothes used by the baby's mother.

The dog appeared in the middle of the night carrying a bag in his mouth, in which the baby was found.

The animal started barking and scratching the door until his owners came out to see what the matter was.

The dog's owner, Elena Florea has told the daily Realitatea Romaneasca newspaper: "My dog, Vasile, brought home a baby boy who looked as if he had been born a few hours before.

"He was wrapped in swaddling clothes and I got very scared. I thought Vasile stole the baby from somebody's house. I called the mayor's office immediately."

The mayor then alerted the ambulance and the police. The 10lb baby is recovering at a hospital in Lasi while police look for his mother.

Sheepdog saves dying recluse

Aug 07, 2003

A dying vagabond in Scotland has been saved after his message in a bottle pleading for help was found by a sheepdog.

Robert Sinclair had fallen ill while sleeping rough and had not eaten or drunk for a week when a farmer's Border Collie came scampering to the rescue by finding the message and taking it to his master.

Sinclair, who suffers from asthma, lay at the deserted Lethalian farm, near Falkirk, after an attack caused by his condition two weeks ago.

The 55-year-old, who has lived wild in the Stirlingshire countryside for 27 years, scribbled a note on a piece of cardboard, put it in an old plastic water bottle and dropped it out the window.

Help came after the dog from a farm three fields away picked up the scent.

The 15-month-old sheepdog named Ben found the bottle and took it to his master, Brian Besler, 56, who alerted police.

The farmer, who has 200 sheep his land, said: "Ben found this bottle and came running up to me with it in his mouth.

"There was a message in it asking for help, it said Robert had been lying there for more than two weeks, he was ill, he couldn't breathe right, his chest was clogged up and he'd run out of food and water.

"He said he was fed up with this life and wanted to die but didn't want to die like this, there, and was begging for help.

"I thought it was a wind-up until I saw the name - Robert's well-known round here as a bit of a recluse - and went to the police."

Dogs are wonderful in this way. I don't think our cats would be as valiant!

Wow, that's incredible. That dog has more brains and heart than the baby's mother.

DID YOU SEE THIS STORY?

NOT ALL 911 HEROES ARE PEOPLE ~ ~ ~

James Crane worked on the 101st of Tower 1 of the World Trade Center. He is blind so he has a golden retriever named Daisy. After the plane hit 20 stories below, James knew that he was doomed, so he let Daisy go, out of an act of love. She darted away into the darkened hallway.
Choking on the fumes of the jet fuel and the smoke James was just waiting to die. About 30 minutes later, Daisy comes back along with James' boss, who Daisy just happened to pick up on floor 112.
On her first run of the building, she leads James, James' boss, and about 300 more people out of the doomed building. But she wasn't through yet, she knew there were others who were trapped. So, highly against James' wishes she ran back in the building.

On her second run, she saved 392 lives. Again she went back in. During this run, the building collapses. James hears about this and falls on his knees into tears. Against all known odds, Daisy makes it out alive, but this time she is carried by a firefighter. "She led us right to the people, before she got injured" the fireman explained.
Her final run saved another 273 lives. She suffered acute smoke inhalation, severe burns on all four paws, and a broken leg, but she saved 967 lives. The next week, Mayor Guilaini rewards Daisy with the Canine medal of Honor of New York. Daisy is the first civilian Canine to win such an honor.
