Is the recall really a good idea?

Posted on 08/08/2003 10:59:20 AM PDT by birdsman

I don't think that a recall is really in the GOP's best interest. Even if Arnold (I won't attempt to spell his name) is elected, Calif is still stuck with a liberal as governor. I'd rather see Davis stay on, as he'd be ineffective. Keeping an unpopular Davis will keep many democrats at home on election day 2004, which would almost guarentee Bush CALIF in his reelection bid, all but guarentee a Republican (hopefully a real Republican) victory in the next gubitorial race, and may even help defeat Dianne Boxershorts on 04.

CA doesn't have that kind of time to wait. That place needs to be fixed now.

Yes.

A Republican governor can be influenced (albiet not controlled) by the Republican National Committee.

Yes. It got rid of most of the Kobe and Laci threads here.

IMHO, electing a Republican governor now will only make California that much more diffucult for the GOP - because the budget crisis has only been put off for next year, and Arnold [or whoever] gets to deal with an $8 billion + deficit. On top of things, he gets to do it with a heavily D legislature with every motivation to obstruct...

I'm tired of the "lets lose today so things will get so bad we will win next time" approach. It hardly ever works. Remember Davis was re-elected after the energy fiasco and budget deficits. Everybody thought Clinton would lose in 96 but he won. You never know what will happen. The economy could rebound by 06 eliminating the deficit. Then Davis and the Dems will get credit for it. Gotta try to win toady. The Dems never roll over.

Arnie may be a liberal on social issues, but at least he will be low-tax and pro-business. Having any Republican governor will allow the Republican Party to start to rebuild statewide. And a Pub Governor will only help in the 04 elections.

Calrification: that should read "we gotta try to win today". I'm not calling anyone a "toady". ;~)

"I don't think that a recall is really in the GOP's best interest."

Where do you live? It's hard to believe that you are a Californian because, if you were, you would realize that three more years of Gray Davis will destroy this state permanently.

As a Californian, I don't give a flying fig whether a recall is in the best interest of the GOP or not. A recall is in the best interest of California. In fact, it is imperative that Davis be driven out of office ASAP. And since the Idiot Dems in California are falling all over themselves to vote for Arnold, I say: "GREAT". I don't care who the next Governor of California is as long as it's not Gray Davis.

So before you post some vanity whining that a recall might not be good for the GOP, come live here for a month or two and see what it's like living in a liberal hell.
