Two more rumors bite the dust (Ride home and torn clothing just not true, sources say)
The Vail Daily ^ | 8/4/03 | The Vail Daily

Two more reports regarding the Kobe Bryant case circulating among part of the national media were debunked Monday.

Media reports that the 19-year-old woman who Bryant allegedly assaulted received a ride home is not the case, sources said Monday. Reports that her clothing was torn are also untrue, sources also.

Sources told the Daily that the alleged victim managed to get herself home by 11:50 p.m., June 30, after ending the shift at the Lodge at Cordillera at around 11:10 p.m.

They also said that while her clothing was disheveled and showed signs that something had occurred, it wasn't torn or ripped, as some reports indicated.

"Some of the reports made it sound like something out of a bad movie," said one source. "It wasn't like that."

The reports are part of a larger set of rumors and gossip that have been circulating across the country about the case. Among them:

- That the alleged victim was in the room two hours. It was only about 20 minutes.

- When she came down, she was hysterical. She was not. Sources said she was in a stupor and a state of shock.

- A few days before the incident, the alleged victim had accused another hotel worker of sexual harassment, getting him fired. Not true, said the man who was terminated. It was not the alleged victim.

Cameras in court

Eagle County Judge Fred Gannett ruled that not only is Bryant required to appear at 4 p.m. Wednesday, he also ruled Monday that there will be cameras in the courtroom.

Gannett denied a motion by Bryant's attorneys asking Gannett to reconsider an earlier order allowing one video camera and one still camera in the courtroom while Bryant is advised of the charges against him, and also advised of his rights.

Looks like he fancies himself as the next Michael Jordan.

Huh?

Yeah, I guess having anal sex the first time might put someone in a stupor and a state of shock. This is a woman who regrets having anal sex with Kobe Bryant. Period.

You mean the five who are nameless, faceless and some reporter said that he had heard them say that they had heard her say whatever?

You mean the 5 who were interviewed on-camera directly by MSNBC. Yeah. Those five. I am sure you will become familiar with their names faces and testimony as this case moves towards trial.

The name of the guy whose house the party was held at was Steve something (started with an "F," I think). In any event, he has been fully identified and spoke on camera. The others may have, too, I just don't know.

Next they'll be saying Kobe was never in Colorado at all. And those 911 calls to his home were never made either.

It's Saint Kobe to the basketball world and that's how it will stay!

Dallas Mav coach say Kobe scandel is, unfortunately, good for the NBA. Notoriety sell (his words); street cred up (mine).

Posting my comments from the other thread here:

(And as to your reference to the "hang him high" bunch, I hope you don't count a freeper like me in that group. After all, I think I'm the only one who pointed out the discrepancy in the ride home stories! It's called evaluating the media reports and utilizing perception as opposed to being wedded to a preconceived notion and being desperate to hang on to it no matter what.)

My post from the other thread:

This was already discussed last night.

First, I pointed out almost immediately (on Sunday) that Luke Bray's account was the girl drove herself home, so there was a discrepancy about the ride home story.

Second, while the witnesses did not say torn, they said disheviled and I've speculated, based on another report, that a button from her clothes was torn off and subsequently found in his room. That's a guess, but would explain the merging of disheviled and torn.

At any rate, injuries were visible per multiple reporters doing their own independent reporting, and the injuries were still visible the next day and photographed. Also, the story still stands that she told the bellhop what happened, regardless of the ride home aspect.

Hardly a ringing vindication of Bryant. In fact, it's not.

July 22: MSNBC: The alleged victim was at a party three days before the charges were filed and appeared to be in a good mood, NBC News reported, citing five party attendees. "She was bragging about it," party host Steve Evancho told NBC News. The victim described Bryant's anatomy when asked about it at the party, the host said.

There was a webfeed of their interview with him on thier website. Won't be the last you here of this kid. BTW it was HIS party.

My brother has a website. Is it an odd thing for someone to have one? In fact I know several people that have their own sites.

Hmmmmmmmm

I didn't know it was an indictment of some sort.

In other words, the sources for some media reports say one thing while other sources say something else. And that has led you to conclude that Kobe Bryant is not guilty.

Hmmm...
