The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that a script for a big-screen version of "The Dukes of Hazzard" is in the works, with Ashton Kutcher and Paul Walker both interested in the lead roles of the fast-driving cousins.
Anthony Anderson ("Barbershop") will star as Boss Hog. The CBS TV series ran from 1979-85.
And here's a kicker: The trade also reports that Britney Spears may be interested in playing the role of Daisy Duke.

"It's not like Catherine Bach, Jon Schneider and Tom Wopatt were Shakespearean Actors or anything."
Actually, Tom Wopat was an accomplished stage actor before he took the role of Luke Duke; I believe he did perform in Shakespearean roles also, but I could be wrong about that. I saw an interview with him not too long ago, and he went back to stage acting after the series, he is performing in New York now.
On the subject of Britney, I am not a fan of her music, but I think she would make a good Daisy Duke; from what I see of the rest of the cast choices, IMO she is the best choice out of all of them. Catherine Bach will always be THE Daisy Duke, but she could not play the role now. I saw her picture not too long ago, and I didn't even recognize her at first. She has gained a lot of weight and of course, has aged almost 20 years since the show went off the air.
I actually hope they don't make this movie, if they do I'm sure it'll be PC'ed to death. Their choice for Boss Hogg shows that they are already looking to "diversify" the cast. They would be hard pressed to find enough Chargers in running condition today to use as the General Lee. They could use some other kind of car, but I can just imagine the outcry we'd hear from the leftists and anti-Southern crowd if they put a Confederate flag on it. If they change it, none of the fans of the old show will go to see the movie.
Someone mentioned Ben Jones, who played Cooter, being a Congressman. He was a Congressman in Georgia, he lost his seat to Newt Gingrich in 1992 or 1994; and ran again in his home state of Virginia in 2002, but lost there too. He took a lot of heat for taking the General Lee with him on the campaign trail, and he made no apologies for it. He actually made a pretty good stand for Southern heritage, which probably hurt him politically even more since he is a Democrat. I give him a lot of respect for standing up for his beliefs and his heritage, although I disagree with him on other issues.

Here's a link to Ben Jones' (Cooter's) website. He has a museum and store in his hometown of Sperryville, VA and another he just opened up in Gatlinburg, TN dedicated to the Dukes. Some of the former cast members visit there from time to time and have autograph and meet -n- greet sesstions.

I am not sure if he was a great actor but the blond one, I think it was Bo, was just perfect for the part. He really did look like he could have come from my home town in Georgia. I always thought Daisy's shorts were just a little too short to be realistic in a small Southern town.

I remember back in the mid 80's being in a Black section of Newport News and seeing a little Black kid riding around on a Bicycle which had a confederate flag flying from the handlebars.
I later realized it was a "Dukes of Hazard" Bicycle.

Is there nothing Hollywood won't profane? Not if there's money in it.
To: finnman69
The original Daisy didn't either.

You are right, those shorts were just a little too short for small town Georgia.
Of course the show was not exactly supposed to be a documentary on moonshine running.

I guess in the movie they could just have her wear a denim colored thong.

Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to that denim thong you mentioned.

When I was a kid, growing up in the Florida Panhandle, those shorts would probably have gotten her arrested.
Nowadays it would probably turn a few heads, at least if Daisy were wearing them but little else.

There was one thing which was difficult to believe about Mary Ann. How in the world did she live on that island with the Professor, Gilligan and the Skipper, wearing those shorts and there never be any little Professors, Gilligans, or Skippers?

I think the Professor made contraceptives out of mangos and papayas...

How many '69 Chargers are they going to destroy this time?
It should have been a crime for rolling That '70 in the Fast and the Furious.

Oh no, there was no sex on Gilligans Island.
I think if I were Bo and Luke that I would have wondered if Cousin Daisy was a "kissing cousin".
Oh yes, Greg and Marcia were really not brother and sister at all, I always wondered....

The spoof movie of the Brady Bunch did touch on this subject matter.

Usually movies based on TV series are not really good. I don't think any of the Gilligan's Island movies were worth watching.
There have been three Brady movies I know of plus the Brady Brides. Most were not very good although "The Brady Bunch Movie was watchable. On the other hand, "A very Brady Sequel" which is the one which had Greg and Marcia sharing a bedroom with predictable results was a very good movie. It sort of poked fun at the series and had some mention of just about every one of the tv episodes.
If the Dukes would get Britney as Daisy and maybe a couple of real Southern boy unknowns it could be good.

I liked the scene where you hear them thinking and they are all saying "It's all my fault". Then they get to Marsha and you hear her thinking, "It's all Jan's fault."
