I'm putting up an 8 footer, so I've got to paint the slats before they go up. I'll never reach the tops otherwise. I can relate .. I have an 8 footer also and I'm 5'2"
And worse .. it's a shaddow box fence so I can't use a roller and have to stain to with a brush .. groooooan

It's tough getting old:
Two elderly women were eating breakfast in a restaurant one morning.
Ethel noticed something funny about Mabel's ear and she said, "Mabel, did you know you've got a suppository in your left ear?"
Mabel answered, "I have? A suppository?" She pulled it out &stared at it.
Then she said, "Ethel, I'm glad you saw this thing. Now I think I know where my hearing aid is."

The city came around and put up street lights on all the adjacent streets, and since I am on a narrow block, I have 3 streets adjacent, and 7 street lamps cast shadows in my yard.
One of my favorite relaxations is to lay on the grass and gaze at the stars (since we are rather high) and that has been wiped out. When this fence is done I'll get that back.
I've learned that linseed oil has to be applied until it doesn't soak in anymore, so that is the step of the moment. 3 of linseed, then paint.
