I think there is concern that the forum would get crammed up with everybody's help needs if they were allowed on the front page.

I don't know. But I guess this one will get pulled pretty fast as well.

If you have a tech problem why not post it to a tech forum - it's not as if there is a lack of them on the web...

This is a news forum.

You need to be logged in to get an answer to a tech problem.

You say no one goes to General Interest, so you want to have the main forum littered with all the posts that no one is interested in enough to go to General Interest to see (if people found the type of threads that are in GI to be so worthwhile, they would check there often). Also, you said you get your most help within five minutes, and then it is moved. If you got your help, what's the problem?

Is not this the reason we are here to begin with? To help and seek help from fellow conservatives?

Nope. From FR:
"Most of the visitors to the Free Republic website are attracted to our very popular (and addictive) conservative forum for two basic reasons: First, this is a fast moving forum where you can often find breaking news and up to the minute updates. But, most importantly, visitors are encouraged to comment on the news of the day here, and especially to contribute whatever information they may have to help others better understand a particular story."

WHile it is obviously important to maintain the news function of the front page, there are at least a gazillion headlines listed there. I only look at those that have been posted recently.

Why not have a spot in the right-hand side bar for other areas with say the latest 5 posts? One for tech, one for books, one for ....

Except for the last 25 posts, the space in the side bar is mostly wasted, imo.

Hello. I just noticed your post. Requests for help are not activism. Why you would think they are is not clear to me. It is not proper to use the announcements topic to announce that you do not know how to do something. Tech is for discussing technical news and their effect on society, not for discussing how to fix your computer. A few times we have let your posts stay in the main forum until you got an answer. That will not be the case any longer.

I notice that you signed up almost a year ago, but did not start posting until recently. Welcome to the world of more frequent posters. I also notice that on quite a few tech threads not posted by you that had been moved to General Interest, you found them and contributed to them. So I think you can have a bit more faith that those who want to find such threads will. Also, you can always email for help to someone you see on one of the tech threads who appears to know what they are doing. If you don't make a pest of yourself, I am sure you will get some assistance.

But please stop using our main forum as your personal help desk. It is not for it. Thanks, AM

Excuse me.......but those of us who visit General Interest are not NOBODY........

Further, your thread is re directed so you really have NO complaint at all.

If you wish to whine please don't do it here.

Nothing gets 'left' on the latest posts page for a set amount of time! - Things are listed in the order that they are posted, if you want to keep it current, reply to it and bump it to the top.

Just know that everyone is not perhaps waiting on the edge of their seat wondering what the solution to you question is!
