When was The Smokey Backroom section established? I just noticed it.

I can't remember when it was started but it was started for the more heated debates that go on here.

I think most people don't usually post things to the smokey backroom. It's a place the moderators move threads that get too heated and usually degenerate into name calling and other stupidity. It was started several months ago.
General interest is for topics that are of interest to Freepers, but aren't necessarily about news or politics.

On occasion, I'll be reading a thread, hit refresh, and get a notice that it has been moved to chat. Does anyone know what and where is chat?

It's been around for awhile. Threads are moved there when the flaming gets intense. I think it's basically unmoderated whereas GI is moderated.
Has anybody ever posted directly to the Smokey Backroom? That's an interesting question.

Shouldn't this thread be in general interest or smokey backroom?

SmokeyBackRoom started almost exactly a year ago with the "Massilon" Threads when people questioned the validity of a Traffic Stop between a somewhat unbalanced citizen who challenged a Law Enforcement Officer which then resulted in the death of two productive members of Society. Anyone who argued the senselessness of the encounter was ruthlessly flamed by a small group of emotion based Big Government "Conservatives" who apparently see it as their mission to enforce whatever laws liberals pass regardless of their applicability to a Constitutional Republic of Sovereign Citizens.
If I continue to make statements like this, those Freepers will likely appear on this thread and IT will be moved to the SmokeyBackRoom to descend into meaningless baiting and counter baiting.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
