The Smokey Backroom vs General Interest?
Self | July 24, 2003 | PJ-Comix

Posted on 07/25/2003 5:22:36 AM PDT by PJ-Comix

So what is the difference between the General Interest section and The Smokey Backroom section of the FR? Has The Smokey Backroom section been established because the General Interest section has sort of turned into the Hobbit section? I just want to know so I know what sort of stuff to post in The Smokey Backroom section.

Why the question mark?

Is that the forest behind OT's house?

Wonder if her paint supplies are flamable? Bet they are.

Meaning...you gonna flame?

It's the forest OT uses. Not sure where it is, actually!

Yours was good, so was Corin's and Jen's. I didn't see OT's though.

I liked "Go to the Widowmaker" alot when I read it 34 years ago. Don't know if I'd still like it, but it made an impresson on me as a 20 year old. 'Course, so did LOTR.

The first chapter of mine was OK...it went downhill (off the cliff?) after that. Heh...I haven't looked at it months. Scared to.

I didn't read the end of it, but I saw enough to understand that you have real writing ability.

The novel was great until right near the end when it seemed like Jones just didn't know where to go with it so it just flickered out. However, starting with that novel and then his other novels, I learned how he approached the craft of novel writing. The research itself was quite fascinating and I am starting to use many of his techniques. As a matter of fact, I am RIGHT NOW typing up a story which uses some of the James Jones technique. Note that I said technique and NOT style. I wouldn't attempt to do someone else's writing style. It wouldn't be natural. However, his technique makes it very easy to write stories. As I said earlier in this thread, I plan to use the Jones TECHNIQUE for finding source material for stories I plan to enter into writing contests.

Oh wait "stupid" does have two syllables. I guess you're making progress.

Brevity is the soul of getting to the point. And brevity is something the fellow who made that STUPID movie does not know a thing about.

I have been a "Freeper" since '99 and did not until recently, began to post in a regular manner. The reason being is the "flame wars" and the superior haughty attitude that I have seen in various threads. I had been on the "front lines" in this war since the early "80 when, at last , we had a pro-family, pro-life Republician Platform. I can tell you "war stories" that would cause alot of these "superior in their own mind, flamers" to run. It's taken some time to recover from "burn -out". I am on the mend now, but I think it is sad that the web site I felt that had the most positive influence in keeping in a conservative administation, was not one I felt comfortable posting on during this much needed recovery time. It's sad when soldiers shoot their own. The "Hobbitt Hole" was a place of refuge where you could be yourself and not worry about the "flaming". A place to laugh, to pray for one another, to do something to help our guys overseas and various politial needs. It's needed in a battle such as we are fighting. It's called "grace" and that is what "Lord Of The Rings" is about. I wish you grace, because without it, you will eventually become what you hate.
