Someone other than Cheney?
Posted on 07/07/2003 10:09:15 AM PDT by Lost and Confused
I know that Cheney has said that he will be the candidate again in 2004, but how do you people feel? Who do you think should be the candidate and why?
I don't know if this has been discussed or not because I just signed up two weeks ago. If it has, just ignore this.

Why didn't you answer my question?
What did the Vk do to get you to hate them?

Conservatives "think". Liberals "feel" I like it too, but I hate the Viking Kittens.

I think you need to explain why you feel the way
you do about little, cute Viking Kittens...

Sorry for not answering your question, but I was writing that little bit as your posted yours. The Viking Kittens are just not my taste. I find them annoying.
I usually get my humor from theonion.com, somethingawful.com, or albinoblacksheep.com.

Then you do not understand the VK, we may provide a form of entertainment as we root out trolls that lurk FR, but we are not the providers of news and humor as the sources you named.
We are the protectors and defenders of FR.

Conservatives also try to avoid making gratuitous commentsNot really. When one errs, a correction is totally apropos.
Sort of like a Professor correcting his students, which, I'm sure, you do on a regular basis.

But is it really a useful correction? Do you think this poster benefited from it? Do you think he/she was really wondering how people "feel" in an "Oprahistic" way? Or was the purpose actually to tap people's thoughts?
I don't know about most Freepers or most conservatives, but despite Rush Limbaugh's rhetoric, I'm perfectly willing to accept "think" and "feel" as synonomous in everyday speech.

Powell or Rice will attract millions of new votes for the Republican Party. Only a few "ultra" conservatives will fail to support the ticket. As far as Powell's specific views on abortion go (and I don't know exactly what they are), I'll bet they are not far out of line with those of a good portion of Republican voters (e.g., allow abortion in the early stages of pregnancy, impose tighter restrictions later on).
In other words, both Powell and Rice are clearly inside the Republican/conservative tent. The inclusion of either one on the ticket could help defeat the Dems for a long long time.

I know the Viking Kittens are not specifically from FR and that FR is not a humor site, but my tastes are more like the kinds in the other sites I mentioned.
To: Lost and Confused
Very well, and no one to dispute that, but you did say you
hated the Viking Kitties...
I was just wondering why such resentment for the VK?
The only posters that I know that "hate" the VK are trolls...
Of course, I respect your opinion.

I like it too, but I hate the Viking Kittens. Did we do anything wrong, since this person has signed up(July 1st) or is he a retread and knows all about us?

There's no accounting for taste.
I don't like spinach but that doesn't make me a bad conservative, I hope... 8^)

Hey guys, sorry I'm late to the party.
I've been away from the office since 7/2 and it feels like a month!
I don't know if this person is a retread or not, but he/she sounds ok to me.
Hope y'all had a good weekend!

Hey, I'm a VK. Why do you hate us? We make the world a better place, and you'll never find better people than in the Viking Kitties. (trust me, i know)
Don't make up your mind so soon, bud! Maybe you could even be one of us! Zavien Doombringer was almost ZOT-ted when he first signed up. You'd think he of all people would dispise the VKs. But he's one of us! Cool, no? ;)
C'mon. You gotta love the kitties!

The VKs aren't really here solely for humor. It's true that the articles where the VKs show up tend to take a turn for the funny, but we just help get rid of stupid liberal posters who show up all the time. Well, most of the time...
If we weren't here, there would be liberals all over the place. And we'd die. Dieing isn't good. No good. We are good. We make them die.
But, I can see what you mean when you say " I find them annoying. I usually get my humor from theonion.com, somethingawful.com, or albinoblacksheep.com. "
You like humor in a story/news form, not a blunt joke or two. Satire is your thing.
That's ok. I like story jokes and satire alot, too. I just don't think "hate" is the correct word to use.
Oh, and hey, welcome to FR.

You call somebody who's pro-Affirmative Action, pro-abortion, and pro-contraceptives "clearly inside the Republican/conservative tent"? There are millions of people who would never vote for somebody as liberal as Powell. It's one of the reasons why he decided not to run in 2000. He would lose in the primaries.
You also exaggerate the potential votes they might get. Did Barry Goldwater (partly Jewish) get a lot of Jewish votes? Not to my knowledge. Lieberman, who was Jewish, was on the Democratic ticket in 2000 and the Dems only got an additional 6% of the Jewish vote.
Voting patterns are usually fairly stable and unlikely to change simply because the GOP tries to pander to African-Americans with Affirmative Action candidates.
In no way am I suggesting that Powell and Rice are anything but some of the most talented individuals. But neither has significant domestic policy experience. In the case of Powell, he was the one who argued against Reagan delivering the "Tear down that Wall!" line and was the one who advised President H.W. Bush not to invade Iraq and get rid of Saddam Hussein in 1991. So I would even put Powell's foreign policy expertise under question. Combine this with his unjustified enthusiasm with the Mid East "road map" and his advocacy of going the UN route during the run-up to the Iraq war. He has great foreign policy expertise alright, just the wrong expertise.
