Do you have to physically be in Pittsburgh for this? I know some folks in the Chicago area, but I don't think they want to move.

I'll give ya a bump for helping FReepers.
As far as my computer skills, back before FR was revamped, the reply I got most often was "Bold Off". ;-D

Does that mean you play games all day? :-)
On a good day, I FReep for a living. As the Internet cop in our firm, I feel it is my obligation to read articles from every part of the world and comment upon them. Anything else would be hypocracy.

BTW I noticed that phne calling cards are being sold and curiously the phone rates from the US to Hong Kong are LESS than rates calling between states in the US!
This must explain part of the drive to move call centers and other services out to Asia. Cheap internet connections must be on those pipes too.
Hong Kong is becoming the center of the internet world.

My brother's a programmer and he needs some freeper prayers. He's in the hospital tonight. He has srv or svr -whatever. His heart goes real fast or real slow. He already has a pacemaker only two weeks old. Now they're gonna give him meds to stabilize his heart rhythm. He called from his hospital room right before the HAIL STORM over here. I was at ground zero for hail this afternoon. It's been one heck of a Fourth of July.
Meanwhile, do we have any tv specialists here? I have a little Sylvania tv-vcr combo and the vcr won't stop going through stop, eject, play. If I try to put a tape in it, it just gets stuck. So, if I am just watching the tv, the vcr keeps churning and churning (very annoying).

I'm not qualified for the programming slots (I'm an old Fortran coder and I write documentation nowadays anyway), but will certainly pass this along if I hear of anyone looking. Thanks.

I have a little Sylvania tv-vcr combo and the vcr won't stop going through stop, eject, play. If I try to put a tape in it, it just gets stuck. So, if I am just watching the tv, the vcr keeps churning and churning (very annoying). In my experience, this could be one of the following:
- The microprocessor might be confused.
Try unplugging the VCR and leaving it unplugged for 12 hours or so to zero out the microprocessor, then plug it back in and see if it repeats this behavior.
- The start/end sensor might be faulty or dusty.
This sensor is generally on a little vertical plastic pole, sticking up in the center of where the tape goes in. There's a hole on the back of VHS tapes where this sensor goes into when a tape is inserted. Check it for dust or debris - if it is dirty, wipe it off. If that doesn't help, you can have the sensor replaced but the repair cost might be more than the VCR is worth.
More good hints here:

Oh my goodness. My Dad had a pacemaker put in about 6 years ago. His heart was doing that too. His heart beat would slow to around 20. His pacemaker kicks in if his heart rate slows to 60 I believe. And to keep his heart from beating too fast, they give him some medication he takes daily. Yeah, it sounds like you've had one heck of a weekend already. Wishing the best for you and your brother, FV.
For your brother:

Thanks for posting the job info. Unfortunately, I don't want to program. However, if any quality assurance or system administrator jobs open up, I'm your person. :)
