Could race-based affirmative action sometimes be ok?

I was at the Taste of Chicago a couple of nights ago, a huge event that attracts a half black, half other crowd. This nine-member, black band got surley with the cops because the cops said they had to let passers-by take their photograph. The next thing I knew seven of the nine were in handcuffs, lying on the ground with big white cops sitting on them. There must have been 20 cops, and only one of them was black.

This kind of racial difference between the sides could have sparked a riot. Could it be that Daley (whom I detest) is right in ignoring police test scores to get more black sargents.

(It was also interesting to note that there were 5 women cops. They did not help wrestle the band members to the ground, and it was obvious watching the kind of force that the men used, that the woman's help would have been useless.)

LA riots, mahem after almost all professional sports championships, mobs taking people out of cars on the South Side of Chicago and beating or killing them on a regular basis, etc., etc., etc.

Yes - all fine examples of mass insanity. Thereby showing that the real question is why our society turns out such insane monsters, not what skin pigmentation should be of the cops they hire.

Forget Taste of Chicago. Drive on up for Summerfest.

I did that 20 years ago. My girlfriend wanted to see Hughy Lewis and the News right before "Back to the Future" came out, and I wanted to see the Everly Brothers. Unfortunately, we did what I wanted. Nice city though.
