First it was the Christian's then the Dixie Chicks , you better hope you are not next to realize your economic restraints.............

We're all free to support whatever music groups and tea brands we wish.

America, land of Free Speech (unless someone doesn't like what you have to say).

How does my decision not to buy your product or utilize your service interfere in any way with your right to "free speech"? Am I somehow obligated to give money to you in the name of "free speech"? If so, upon what legal or moral theory do you base this? I would like an answer to these questions, if you would be so kind.

FREEDOM does really ring here in America. You can say anything you like; but if I disagree with you, on any subject, I still do not have to support you. Just try a consertive comment in most college classrooms and see what you get. The belief in free speech by the left has been shown to be free speech "only if you agree with me".

If I have to reprint this for one more moron that doesn't understand that free speech means speech not prohibited by a Congressional Law, I'm going to scream;

Amendment I, learn it, love it, live it;Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I doubt there are too many among those of us who post on these boards who wouldn't put his life on the line to fight for the ditsy chips' or even the traitors, KKKli'toons' and their henchman, Alberto Lurch Goreleone's -- or your -- right to say whatever any of you have to say.

But none of you have any right to expect what you say to be popular or to your right to say it being confused with my right to afford you the dignity of the consequences of your speach if what you say pisses me off!

Actually, the DCs have their right to free spech. It hasn't been hindered in any way. In fact, Fatty Nattie's foolish statements got *plenty* of play.

From the dictionary...Consequence---That which naturally follows from a preceding action; result.

Americans are free to say whatever they want but there can be a good or bad consequence.

>>"Does FREEDOM really ring in America, or is it just a myth?"

If it is a myth then why are the Dixie Chicks still walking around? Are they in jail? Are they dead? Can they still say what they want to? Anywhere in the U.S they want to?

If America was really what you think, then all the people who have spoken out against the president and his policies would be dead, in jail as political prisoners, tortured, and threatened by those that they have spoken against.

The problem with free speech is that if one person is going to have it, everyone must be given the same rights. Their freedom of speech is not a requirement on my part to listen. They have spoken and now if freedom of speech really does exist the way they want it to, I have my freedom of speech as well.

Do I have a requirement to buy their CD's? Must I listen to their tripe on TV? Do I have to sit in the crowd at an awards banquet when they come out with an F.U. T-shirt and a mohawk? I don't think so.

If you really want to see where free speech doesn't exist, visit Iran and proclaim you are a Christian. If you really want to see Christian persecution, visit Pakistan or even China. Try talking about Tiananmen Square in Beijing!! That's REAL repression. Hollywood repression is not the same.

Before you start talking about freedom of speech or lack thereof, make sure you know what you are talking about.
Religious persecution and freedom of speech are two different things.

Look troll, if you weren't spending all of your time at DU, you would realize that FReepers consistantly state everyone has a right to free speech. It is just that non dims/liberals ALSO HAVE THE RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH. Your attempt to parrot the dimocRatic line has failed. Free speech is not a one way issue. It's just that you cannot stand conservatives utilizing that right.

That's the whole point: I'm free to not like what they say and not support anything they advertise.

I've never read anything that says I have to buy a product even if I don't like their ideas.

Drugs are bad for you, and this is forum for adults. So I think you're lost.

Of course freedom exist in America, especially the freedom to not spend your dollars on performers that you find distasteful.

Now go do some good and defend doctor Laura Schlesinger.

Yes, freedom rings, and denounces ANYONE against his own President ESPECIALLY during war time... Thank God, it is easier to identify internal enemies of this great nation. Best wishes!

Yep. You can speak about anything you like, and people don't have to pay you. Can't get freer than that.

About boycotts. Do you recall when Russ Limbaugh made ads for Florida orange juice and the liberals all called for a boycott of Florida orange juice until he was dropped???

I do.

Turnabout is fair play.

What? Even if I don't like what somebody has to say, they can keep saying it as long as they so desire. Nobody is infringing on the Dixie Chick's right to free speech. If they want to continue to say moronic things, they have that right and nobody can legally stop them from doing so. But if I don't like or agree with what the Dixie Chick's are saying, I can refuse to buy their CD's in protest, which has absolutely nothing to do with infringing on their free speech rights.
