HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN!!!!

We all know how proud your mother is of you......and rightly so!!!

My son, also, is 25.....I just talked to him....

..and unless God intervenes otherwise, he will probably head for home (here in Florida) next week, to live.

His options kept running out...

..we had highs...and lows....

...there is seriously a job depletion.....not just in his field, I'm sure...

..we keep hoping the economy will pick up...and I'm encouraged with the DOW.

...I so appreciate ALL your prayers....

...His last option was to move in with another friend from college...(who lost his job in January)....and pool their resources,

..but the other friend just got 'contract work' in North Carolina, and even though the pay isn't very good, the friend is so desperate for work, he's taking it, and leaves next week.

As I said, options keep running out....

..but this AM, son said he is NOT losing faith.
This was said with a 'catch' in his voice.....but he meant it.

God alone knows.....

You can always trust Terry MacAuliffe to lead the way in hypocrisy by calling Dubya's fund-raising prowess a "threat to democracy"

I suspect that Bush will raise well over a 100 million before the end of the year. If he raises all the money he will need next year before the end of this year, it will prevent all teh the trash Bush for raising dollars stories from running next year. They will have run this year to little effect.

There is, I think, a down side to raising too much money. There is evidence of over kill in campaigns. I felt that the Louisiana Senate race was a case of Republican over kill. All those automated phone banks cause a huge negative reaction among the people that get the spam phone calls. The Republican have to learn that just because you have the money to buy a new technology does not mean it works.

Every great salesman knows there comes a time in the pitch to just shut up and let your opponent destroy himself. The competitor for the sale that keeps talking loses the sale. To keep advertising at high rates just because you can is not a good idea. I believe there is a laffer curve that works on political advertising. More or less than the proper amount reduces votes.

The postmortem on last year's Senate race will continue for a long time, but ultimately, Landrieu manage to pull it out late in the afternoon of the runoff when X42 got on the phone with State Sen. Cleo Fields. According to rumors, veiled threats about his future if he didn't get his people to drag blacks to the polls were made.

At 4 PM that afternoon, all exit polling indicated that Terrell was ahead, but after Fields got his machine in gear, blacks swarmed to the polls in the last couple of hours in Orleans Parish, which tilted the election to Landrieu. Mary has never had a good relationship with the black pols in the state, and most blacks were apathetic to her campaign.

Other factors kept Terrell from running away with the election, such as a bogus sugarcane story that the RATS cooked up in the last week, and the President sacking his economic team the day before the runoff, but she still would have won if not for that late surge in black votes.

The Prime Minister of Canada announced that Nation will amend its laws to allow for a union of homosexuals they are choosing to refer to as "marriage."

As bad as seems the reach of our federal government, it ain't nuthin compared to other nations. The power to license marriage is a State power. I suppose the Feds could change marriage laws in the District -- if they dared, but not even the worst Congress could get away nationalizing marriage law.

Federalism is the genius behind the inspiration that is the American experiment.

In his Colossus defense of America during the wild 1912 Republican primary against Theodore Roosevelt, Taft defended the Constitution and America. His opponent wanted to change the very nature of government with such idiocies as easier amendment of the Constitution and the judicial recall (overturning judicial decisions by majority vote). Taft stood him down, and doing it he salvaged the nation.

Throughout the primary, the first ever, Taft spoke of the greatness of the nation. He especially loved to speak to children. At Atlantic City, Taft told some girls:

I have no doubt that when these young ladies grow to womanhood they will have the ballot, but whether you do or not you ought to make preparation to understand your country and to know the gratitude you ought to offer to God for being Americans. ...This is the best country and the best Government that ever was.
Damned straight.

You know, Guennie, maybe the Lord is leading son to FL because there will be some opportunity there.........Plus, he'll be near his family, and that is a very good plan.
:)

Prayers!

AND A GOOD A.M. TO ONE AND ALL OUT IN FREEPER LAND, USA FROM THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST, USA!!!!

YES! There IS a sun and it is shinning real bright today here with more sunny weather coming this week. When the yard dries out I will cut it then go and weed my garden.

A WalMart Supercenter opened today bout a mile from where I live. I've learned a trick shopping there, get up about 3 or 4 and go there, hardly anyone is there and they are stocking shelves and will get anything for you that is out.
Walk in, zip thru with no hassle. If you do it once you will shop that way from now on out.

I am making sauce for pasta today in my faithful ole crockpot, let it cook all day and it melts in your mouth. For us old coggers it is the only way to cook, put it in the pot and leave it.

After yesterday I have a lot of cleanning today from all the construction work we did, lots more to do. Sil off next week and we should finish. Putting 'modern' doors in (as d says) and I gotta admit, the white facings look good, a lot better than I thought and the doors will really dress it up.

Carried my washing down to d house and when she started unloading it wash there asleep in the basket covered with dirty clother was one on the kittens, didn't make a sound as I took it down. A good laugh was had by all!

My truck won't start again, cloged fuel line (again) so think I am going to put a new gas tank on it or at least a used one. The gas gauge doesn't work anyhow and I have already run out of gas one time.

Lots to do today unless I get the feeling not to do anythine which I am leaning towards, so goes the life of a retired man, do it or don't, then you do it tommorrow if you want to and if not, don't do it. Hard life to live believe me.

You all have a good day and keep all with those special need in prayer, for OUR President W and for out troops to stay safe from harm and death. Prayers always for the elderly, a wonderful bunch of folks who love you young people. Have a good day.

I suspect there are amazing precip statistics in quite a few places in the eastern part of the country this year, Chair.

Charlotte's official rainfall YTD is 35.96" .... that's 15.58" above normal.

..... And often the airport, where official stats are measured, receives much less rainfall than other places in the area. I'm sure some locales around here have received much more than that.

Since this follows 4 years of drought, it makes the numbers even more dramatic.

One of the local churches that puts pithy sayings on a signboard out front recently changed their message. It now reads

Prayer is asking for rain
Faith is carrying an umbrella

While I really appreciate the message there, I think the timing may be inappropriate. These days around here carrying an umbrella is SOP ..... doesn't involve faith at all .....

..... even hunting for gopher wood wouldn't require too much faith right now .... LOL!

... womins suffrage: Reminds me of a sublime remark Taft made on the subject in 1909:
I am not a rabid suffragist. The truth is I am not in favor of suffrage for women until I can be convinced that all the women desire it. When they desire it I am in favor of giving it to them, and when they desire it they will get it, too.
Spoken with the enlightenment of a married man.

I'm worn out from reading everything you've been doing to your house.

No rain yet here today. Sun is actually peeking through the clouds.

Short is good

Amen to that! .... *grins*

When I was in the 5th grade I was one of the tallest people in my class. Haven't grown a smidgen since then. Still, at 5' I would feel as if I were towering over Neets. It's so seldom that I encounter an adult shorter than I am that I feel like the Jolly Green Giant when I do. Had a friend back east who was 4' 10" ..... I felt absolutely gargantuan beside her.

I must admit to not being tiny, as Neets is (or looks in the pictures I've seen of her) ... just short. :-(
