There are a LOT more of us Scots over here than back over there. They left when there wasn't any way to make a living (like most of my Scottish ancestors, who were honest tradesmen - shoemakers, carriage makers, and the like, seeking to better themselves) . . . on the other hand, one of my ancestors (the one in the direct male line to my maiden name) was a MacGregor, the Sopranos of Scotland. He left Scotland under a cloud and one jump ahead of the sheriff and changed his name when he got here.
It must be from him I get my taste for Scottish ale -- but hopefully not his cattle-stealing propensities. The MacGregors were a bad lot.
