Why would anyone drink Corona beer?

Posted on 06/06/2003 9:17:54 AM PDT by its gilligan

Why would anyone drink Corona Beer? I mean Mexico is not exactly known for producing quality beer in the first place. Yet this is like the dregs of Mexican brews. Its the Old Milwaukee of Mexican Beers. A poor Mexcian farm worker would probably just as soon drink his own urine as drink this concoction. The fact that you need to put a piece of fruit in the bottle to get it down should tell you something. Yet people here pay $7 a six pack for this stuff.

Well, I think I know who drinks it. It's the freepers! You see, at the end of the month when the workmen's comp check comes in, the freeper wants to impress the other freepers in the trailer park. So instead of the usual case of Busch, he goes out and buys some "imported beer." He then walks around the trailer park in his best stained undershirt with his Corona in hand and the other freepers think, "WOW WHAT CLASS!"

This has got to be it. Nobody who posts at DU would drink this stuff.

Copy a hit, and break-up noises.

I'll have to call this a hard kill.

And some means of income to afford it.

Maybe their parents will let them have some of the child tax credit coming their way if the House approves the extension of the credit to low-income families...

Obviously, you haven't tasted a local German beer. Makes west coast beer taste like Budwiser.

I have a friend who services old refrigerators, and he is looking for a good small one for me to buy. If he finds one, I will start brewing my one again.

In the meantime we have great micro breweries in Oregon and N. California that make great beers. Why would I pay as much or in many cases more for a Corona and help finance an enemy country and buy a beer that does not taste as good as a USA Micro Brew.

Well, if you ever get an itch for something really strong and full-flavored...brew up a batch of this (I tweaked it a little with some DME and it was about 10% abv):

OLDE SMILING JACKASS CELTIC STRONG ALE (All grain version by ZYMIE)

Starting Gravity : 1.095
Ending Gravity : 1.022
Alcohol content : 9.3%

Total Grain : 20.75 lbs.
Color (srm) :111.7
Efficiency : 65%
Hop IBUs : 60.2

Malts/Sugars:
10.00 lb. Klages
2.00 lb. Vienna
2.00 lb. Belgian Munich
2.00 lb. British Brown 60L
2.00 lb. Brown Sugar (dark)
1.00 lb. American Crystal 80L
1.00 lb. American Crystal 40L
0.25 lb. British Black Patent
0.25 lb. Belgian Roasted Barley
0.25 lb. American Chocolate

Notes: This is an all grain adaptation of the Olde Smiling Jackass recipe from Strange Brewer....I've taken liberty of adjusting the malts on speculation of the combination of the extracts....I will also be first wort hopping with the Fuggles..

Mash in with 5 gallons of 175F water to get 155F
Hold for 60 min
Add 1 gallon boiling water to bring to 158F
Hold for 30 min
Add 2 gallons boiling water for mashout

Sparge with 5 gallons 170F water to collect 8 gallons of liquor

Boil for 2 hours to net 6 gallons of wort

Add Cascade hops in hopback

Pitch 3/4 gallon starter of Sierra Nevada yeast

Which west coast Micros are you camparing, and to which "German Locals". There probably are more Micros in the US now then breweries in Germany. I belive Portland Oregon has 26 on it's own.

Make up your minds, you passel of leftist twits!! I thought all us conservatives were evil rich people who enjoyed nothing more than grinding our heels into the faces of "working class" people and the poor!

So today we're malingering on worker's comp and living in trailer parks?

Y'all just need to decide, because I can't keep switching from robber baron to slack-jawed yokel every whipstitch.

But it's nice to see you finally admit you have nothing but contempt for "working families" and poor, disadvantaged people, who "suffer" under the "degradation" of living in trailers. We all knew you did, anyway.

That sounds like a great late fall/winter beer. I like these beers in colder weather.

In the summer time, I prefer the lighter ales/brews.

If I get into brewing again, I will ping you this fall for your recipe and specifics.

Start with the San Fran micros -- the "fathers" of the widespread micro-brew industry.

Then take a typical German local brew -- Parkbrau for example, and compare them.

The problem is getting hold of local german brews. You can get American brews through beer of the month clubs (which I used to belong to).

"There are some state laws on this, but I never heard of such a federal law."

Most all of the major brands then were selling nationally. They didn't make one type for one state and one for another. It has been quite a while but I believe it was federal in origin.

He eats the worm, but he never goes near a tequila bottle.

The worm is in mescal. See the story here.

I had a friend in college that was the nicest guy. Quite, very studious, level-headed. We roomed together and one night he started drinking mescal. I left the apt. and when I came back he was gone. He had a part-time job at a local hotel and it was someone he worked with calling. It seems he was buck naked in the hotel swimming pool doing backstrokes. And singing "I'm Henry the 8th I am..." at the top of his lungs. He was "excited" while doing this for some reason.

It took a couple of us to get him out of the pool. He was a little guy and put up a hell of a fight. We got him dressed and wrestled him into the car. I decided he needed something to eat. Since it was late at night we took him to the Jack-In-The-Box. Where he insisted on "onions rings". They gave him fries instead and suddenly he jumps out of the car window, through the drive-thru window and announces that he will be "making onion rings for everyone!" He decided to do this naked too for some reason. The only good thing was that the police who showed up knew him from his hotel job and just could not believe it was the same guy. The Jack-In-The-Box crew were laughing to hard to make a big deal out of anything so we took him home.

The next day he didn't remember a thing and never believed he did what we told him he had. Mescal can make some people go crazy! Maybe that's what the toons over at DU drink?

PS - I'm pretty sure the guy went on to be a doctor of some kind.

Finn MacCoul the Celtic Viking Kitty does drink beer . . .

That's a real Viking helmet (from the Oseberg ship) but it doesn't look as good as the ones with the wings and the horns.
