Hillary Rodham Clinton shows her softer side in her new book, taking some responsibility for "botching" health care reform and not being sensitive enough to people who thought she should be a traditional first lady.
But the New York senator does not apologize for the causes she felt passionate about.

"Please feel sorry for me! I could hardly breathe. Gulping for air, I started crying!"
And a warning... Hurl Alert!
"It took me a while to figure out that what might not be important to me might seem very important to many men and women across America."

Washington -- Frankly, when I heard that Hillary Rodham Clinton had signed a deal to write a book for $8 million I doubted that she would write a word of it. For one thing, whenever Hillary testifies she lies. Any prosecutor who has ever pursued her knows that, and any publisher willing to fork out $8 million for a book wants it to be at least plausible. For another thing, when she published her last book, It Takes a Village, she did not write the book -- and, of course, lied about that. She claimed the mawkish little monograph was from her pen and her pen only, when actually it was written by Barbara Feinman. Everyone suspected Hillary had lied about writing the book. It was simply too free of lies for it to be her work. Angered by Hillarys insistence that she alone had written the book, Miss Feinman leaked the news that Hillary held séances with Eleanor Roosevelt. Naturally, Hillary then lied about that too. |
I was furious and getting more so by the second. He just stood there saying over and over again, Im sorry. Im so sorry. I was trying to protect you and Chelsea.Note to Shrillery: WE ARE NOT PLEASED!!Hillary insists that until that moment she believed Clinton had merely been foolish for paying attention to Lewinsky, who now runs a website selling handbags.
Hillary adds: I was dumbfounded, heartbroken and outraged that Id believed him at all.
She describes how the Presidents eyes welled with tears when she ordered him to confess his 18-month fling to 18-year-old Chelsea.
---snip---
But aides fear Hillarys decision to put the scandal back in the limelight could hit her chances of becoming the first female US president.
One former White House staffer who worked for her said the explicit detail could remind the public of the familys sordid past or provoke pity and show her as a truthful, wronged woman.
The aide added: This seems like a gamble. I hope it works but I think its going to open a lot of old wounds.
But last night Hillary said: This is a story about an extraordinary time in my life and in the life of our country.
I think the book will give people more insight and perhaps answer questions, but its also my story and obviously I will be pleased when people can judge for themselves.
Actually, I have come to forgive Hillary Clinton for everything done in the past. It's the present and future damage to the country which the Clinton Crime Machine is doing and will do if not stopped that is a bit of a "hanging chad".
Hill banished Bill to isle doghouse
Former first lady Hillary Clinton confesses that, during her sex-scandal-sullied summer vacation on Martha's Vineyard in 1998, she and the Philanderer-in-Chief slept in separate quarters.
<!ENDSUMM!>But Track fans knew way back then that Bill was out of the big bed. In fact, the First Couple didn't just sleep in separate beds at their borrowed compound in Edgartown.
Oh, nooooo. Most of the time they were in separate houses! Bubba was banished to the guest cottage all the way across the lawn. Right by the pig pen!
Of course, Hillary's recollection of things is a tad different.
``He slept downstairs, I slept upstairs,'' she writes in ``Living History,'' the former first lady's memoir of eight years in the White House - including, of course, the fallout from Bill's carryings-on with Monica Lewinsky.
Well, that's technically correct. Because Bill did have a room on the first floor. But Bubba spent most of his time that summer holed up with his fellow hound, Buddy, in a small guesthouse that he used as a gym, office and presidential doghouse!
The guest digs are not far from the pigpen where Cambridge real estate czar Dick Friedman - the Clintons' Vineyard host - kept his prize porkers, Lucy, Di and the late Henrietta.
According to Hil's memoirs, which were slipped to the Associated Press, Clinton lied to her about Lewinsky but was forced to confess on Aug. 15, 1998, a week before he had to spill his guts to the grand jury.
Four days later, the Clintons arrived on The Rock.
``Buddy, the dog, came along to keep Bill company,'' Hillary writes. ``He was the only member of our family who was still willing to.''
Hillary describes a real fun family holiday. While on the island, she felt ``nothing but profound sadness, disappointment and unresolved anger. I could barely speak to Bill, and when I did, it was a tirade.''
Of course, it was well chronicled Clinton appeared to be grounded for most of that stay. His daily - and sometimes twice-daily - rounds of golf were radically downsized to just a couple of outings.
And when the First Family first arrived, the couple didn't even get off the plane together!
In fact, things got so ugly during the Vineyard vacation, at one point, the prez - in a real-life ``Wag the Dog'' scenerio - rocketed off The Rock to rocket (unsuccessfully) Osama bin Laden.
A spokeswoman for Lewinsky said the former presidential paramour has no comment on the Hillary book.
``She hasn't seen it yet,'' said Barbara Hutson.
The book hits shelves Monday.

OK, think about this.
In this book Hillary says he woke her up the day before his grand jury testimony in August to tell her he'd lied to her. Well, think back. When she went on the Today Show in January, 1998 and claimed there was a "vast right wing conspiracy", Matt Lauer asked her how she learned about Lewinsky.
Hillary said Bill woke her up and said "You won't believe what's in the papers this morning".
No way he woke her up BOTH times.
Here's how it went:
Bill: I'm going to agree to go before the grand jury...I'll have to plead for forgiveness.
Hill: Yes, that's the best strategy. Now, you know you'll have to come in my bedroom, close the door and pretend you just "confessed" to me...right? I'll do some screaming and you'll walk out looking contrite.
Bill: Yeah, that'll work. But why don't you try choking and gulping for air....that turns me on.
