Also, years ago
Darian Sahanaja of
The Wondermints (they were playing back up for
Brian Wilson) sent me an invitation for a concert at (I think it was) the House of Blues featuring
Brian Wilson performing on stage with
Nancy Sinatra. Darian was a bit frustrated that the invitation was returned back to him because I wasn't checking my mail enough. He'd sent me other things and had the same problem.
I used to go to Darian's house and we'd "jam" together. Darian was part of the stage band at the All Star Tribute to Brian Wilson at Radio City Music Hall (see my profile page to see a DVD of that event).

Just got the "Brain Wilson on Tour" DVD - Nancy's on that too, along with the Wondermints. Great band - the perfect backup for Brian.

Darian Sahanaja and I were also on the same CD tribute to Brian Wilson.

Just got the "Brain Wilson on Tour" DVD - Nancy's on that too, along with the Wondermints. Great band - the perfect backup for Brian.I have that DVD, too! Yeah, the Wondermints are great! I remember when Brian Wilson first saw the Wondermints at (I think it was) the Roxy in Hollywood around 1994 or 1995--I was there! It was so funny because Darian Sahanaja came up to me and said "Brian Wilson's gonna be here!" I think that later led to Brian choosing the Wondermints as part of his back-up band.
Sure enough, Brian arrived and I got to meet him! I mentioned to Brian Wilson that I hired drummer Hal Blaine in part because he played on most the Beach Boys early hit records.
Brian ask me "Have we ever worked together?" and I said "no". I wish! I was tempted to say "Well, actually Brian we're supposed to get together tonight and jam, remember?" lol.
Brian asked me "What kind of music are you into? You like Country? You like the Beatles?" and then I started singing a line from the song Fixing a Hole from the Beatle's SGT. Pepper album: "I'm fixing a hole where the rain gets in..." then Brian Wilson finished the line by singing "...and stops my mind from wandering"! WOW! I was actually singing with Brian Wilson!
I complimented Brian on the Pet Sounds album, but he seemed a little shy about that, lol! Incidentally, Cato Kaelin was also there and I shook his hand as well. What a night!
Did you watch all the bonus material on the DVD? Did you see Darian? He's the Asian/Indian looking guy with the big, dark hair and the noticeable teeth.
If you're into Brian Wilson/the Beach Boys then you simply MUST get a copy of An All Star Tribute To Brian Wilson at Radio City Music Hall!!! My goodness, what an incredible DVD! Read about it on my profile page, hen go to BEST BUY or amazon.com, or somewhere and GET IT!

Woah! I met Brian at a book signing at the end of the Landy era - he was still in pretty bad shape. I was so flabbergasted to be near him that all I could manage was a mumbled "Thanks Brian, for everything". I wanted to ask him about the Survivors 45 he put out in '64, but I was too star-struck. To sing Beatles songs with Brian - too much!
I saw Darian on the DVD - he's one of the guys trying to teach Neal Young "Good Vibrations", wasn't he?

I saw Darian on the DVD - he's one of the guys trying to teach Neal Young "Good Vibrations", wasn't he?Yes! Him and Nick Walusko. Nick would sometimes be at Darian's house when I was there. Nick and Darian are great together at recreating that old sixties sound. Nick plays the guitar. When I first met Darian back around 1990 or '91, the Wondermints was composed of just Darian and Nick (With friends helping from time to time).
Here's how I met Darian: I was speaking to a Beach Boys fan named Les Chan on the phone and he told me that he knew another Beach Boys fan I might want to contact. He gave me Darian's phone number. I called Darian and we spoke a while. He asked me what the connection was (how I got his number), and then, over the phone, he played me this beautiful song he wrote titled Tracy Hyde (or is it Hide?) I was blown away.
I told him it reminded me of a John Lennonesque type thing---like Lennon's song "Number Nine Dream". Darian was real pleased with that compliment and told me that's the feel he was going for.
BTW, if anyone likes the "ethereal" sound of some Beatles songs like "Strawberry Fields", "I am a Walrus", etc., or Lennon's "Number Nine Dream", or the Beach Boy's Pet Sounds ("Let's Go Away For Awhile") and Smile album material, then go to Amazon.com and buy the Wondermints album with the song Tracy Hyde, You'll love it! (not to mention their other albums including their latest album, Mind If We Make Love To You)
Like I mentioned before, we got together at his house few times, plus we hooked up at a Beach Boys convention in Southern California (San Diego?). Darian and Nick also joined me and Hal Blaine, Jim MacDonald, Mike Noffsinger and others to play for me ex-girlfriend's birthday in some sweat shack rehearsal room.
We did some Beach Boys songs ("Please Let Me Wonder", etc.), Some Beatles songs ("Fixing a hole", "You're mother should know", " should have known Better", "Birthday"), and some other songs ("Johnny B Good").
Me and my friend Andy used to also go see the 'Mints play at different clubs around Southern Cal (including a rinky dink bar called The Irish Mist in Panarama City).
Hope I'm not going to long with this stuff, lol.
