To: everyone

Two people who you should definitely check out are JV Jones, particularly her sword of shadows series (I’d rate her as highly as Robert Jordan or George RR Martin), and Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series (who I believe is who Robert Jordan chose to finish off WoT). Frustratingly neither of these series are complete yet so you may want to wait a bit!

My favourites otherwise, who have already been mentioned are Martin and Jordan, Ian Irvine and Robin Hobb. Could anyone recommend similar authors to these? Particularly Martin, who I really enjoyed with the complexity of plot, politics and characters and also the underplaying of magic. This I have found much like Bernard Cornwell’s King Arthur series. I’ve heard Steven Erikson is comparable to Martin also.

I have to say I’ve tried Terry Goodkind, Raymond E. Feist and David Eddings (who I loved as a teenager but recently re-read) only to be disappointed by their simplicity in plot and character dialogue (something that really gets to me!)
