Had a boyfriend in college and a roommate who was a music major (she later became a lawyer) who both got me interested in classical music. I developed a taste for Stravinsky cause my roommate had him on a lot of the time.

Dvorak and Smetana. Those names bring back memories. Great listening, as was Tchaikovsky Got to get my phonograph fixed or a new one, so I can start listening again to those hundred or so "albums" my husband and I have from the 60's and 70's.

One of these days get yourself a copy of Madame Butterfly (Pucini) with an acclaimed soprano and orchestra.

It's the best opera for repeat listening. Many operas only have one good aria. This one has several, plus lots of other incidental goodies.

I stand by what I said. If our troops can't stand the criticism of a gaggle of chicks who sing then God help us!

I identify with Bush. I am a drunk just as much as Bush is a drunk. I hope I can be half the man he is!

Good reply from the home front. It is not just the troops who are offended or hurt by these acts of loosely called freedom of speech words or staged acts of defiance. It includes all the families of the service personnel who feel betrayed by these flippant remarks.
They cut very deeply and affect the wives, children, and parents of the service person who have to carry on with their everyday activities.
It also adds to the weight of the troops over seas as they feel the additional pain their families bear knowing that some one doesn't respect their loved ones due to the uniform they are wearing and the job they are doing.
What President Bush did on the USS Lincoln was much more than a political message. It said the he respects their sacrafice, is supportive and thankful to all the military and puts the hollywood/entertainer remarks in the trash. Who's respect is more important?

After reading these posts exhaustively, I have decided to weigh in on the grammar question. The proper expression is "The Dixie Chicks ARE stupid". If we are talking about one member then it is appropriate to say "The dixie chick IS stupid". I hope this helps the debate.

How many troops do you know? I'll tell you I know hundreds of them and yes they are offended by what the Chickie Dixs did overseas. They see them as cowardly and disrespectful of our nation, and our President during war.

Gee, that's odd. Usually the military has a maturing, toughening affect on people. The folks that I know who serve and others who I served with could give a s%^& what some big-mouthed blowhard has to say. Risking your life to defend your country generally makes you focus on what's important and teaches you to forget frivolous crap like the Dixie Chicks. You must know an awful lot of fresh recruits. Either that or our military is in a lot of trouble.

OK, is that some kind of reverse Mullet hairdon't she's sportin'?

Please don't accept it as the norm for Texas coiffures.

This "jet-eye" dickwad wouldn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. The Dixie Chick's "music" is not music. It's manufactured crap, poll-tested, demographically calculated jello pudding. The Dixie Chicks are not artists, they are corporately ordained "entertainment" whores.

Give me a freakin' break!

The Dixie Chicks are to country music what "The Monkees" were to rock-n-roll in the sixties.

Looks like Mz. Nat is tryin' to make up for lost sales by appealing to the more butch consumer.
