Getting naked for a magazine cover shows just how far greed and common whores will go to keep it!I've seen better looking sl*ts than this drunk and lying in a gutter.

They were sorry that they aren't being accepted by their fans for just being themselves and 'speaking their mind.' True, but it now has gone even beyond that. Defiant that they will not "bow down" to changing themselves, they have no other options but to become "change agents" themselves & to try to change Pop & C&W culture. Hence, the E.W. cover.
Of course, they're not going to be "way out front" as such catalysts. They'll just let the mainstream media pony them out front as poster children for "protected free speech." And this is often done in subtle ways.
Consider the graphic images used in the Sawyer interview: Did you notice images of Maines (twice) and another celeb w/tape over their mouths? Oh sure, the real problem is not with them--but (to reverse the charges) with conservatives who want to "muzzle" others.
That deflects attention away from the real problem: Folks who think they can compartmentalize character & consequences from their behavior.
Bottom-line: The real problem is w/libs who think there's a protective condom for every illicit sex act; an abortion for every "infringement" on their deluded "right" to perceived parental sovereignty; and an escape hatch they call "protected free speech" for every bumble that buzzes out of "Wide Open Spaces."
They are recognized as anti-American entertainers
Yes. And that's why they need to now pin the problem upon "rednecks" and "conservatives" who they think are "Anti-American" because they engage in book-burning & "McCarthyism." The Culture War continues.

I noticed that yesterday. I could not find any recent Dixie Chicks threads when I wanted to show some of the pics to some friends.
Whats up with the Admin Moderators?

Well, it looks to me like Natalie has slimmed down. Maybe that _was_ her body in the cover photo. These clothed photos don't look like the chunk she used to be. I dunno. An expert Photoshop artist can take seventy-five pounds off your body in about 15 minutes. And there isn't a celebrity gracing a single magazine cover in this country that hasn't been Photoshopped out the wazoo. That is NOT what Natalie Maines looks like for real.
Remember the big hullabaloos a while back when Rosie O'Donnell insisted on appearing on the cover of her magazine showing that big staph infected hand and wearing no makeup, and then when Jamie Lee Curtis insisted on being shown on a cover as-is in order to get women to realize that getting older means sagging a little? Both those "controversies" were because nobody in the magazine industry could believe anyone would ever put a non-Photoshopped image on the cover. It just isn't done.

Free speech works both ways. What these girls have to learn, is that there are responsibilities that go with stardom, and there are consequences for your own actions. If I said the same thing about Bush that she said (Ms. maines), it would go unnoticed. I am not a celebrity. They are stupid to think we believe they are against the war but support out troops. First of all when you say troops you include the Commander in Chief of our troops. President Bush! How can you support someone in their job, if you don't support what their job is - Conducting a war against the Iraqi regime.
The only thing your sorry about is losing millions of dollars because you opened you filthy mouth.

The "anti-Dixie Chick" concert is being held in Greenville, SC on May 1, the same night as the Dixie Chicks concert at the Bi-Lo auditorium. Please let us know how this turns out. It's a sure bet the press will downplay this.

''we wanted to show the absurdity of the extreme names people have been calling us. . . . ''We don't want people to think that we're trying to be provocative. It's not about the nakedness. It's that the clothes got in the way of the labels. We're not defined by who we are anymore. Other people are doing that for us.''
Basically, they're saying to their fans: "Up yours! We do and say what we want." And yes, it's about nakedness, and the old phrase "you got it, flaunt it." These stupids are trying to make the crossover to pop where they'll fit in just fine, and later come the movies. That's the route taken by many singers before the ditz' and afterward the ditz'.
To: Timesink
We're not defined by who we are anymore...Actually, this is a big lie. Unfortunately for them, they ARE being defined by who they are, rather than a publicist picture.

And yes, it's about nakedness, and the old phrase "you got it, flaunt it."They DON'T got it, though. Natalie's flaws are beyond obvious, but the other two really aren't all that hot either. They're not repellant, but no magazine would want to pose them naked on the cover if they weren't truly desperate for attention (as EW is, since it has a new editor who isn't impressing his bosses very well).

"I have to say the Dixie Chicks EW cover was more interesting than either the article or their interview with Diane Sawyer."
Registerd's version was absolutely spectacular......

That Maines is an intellectual powerhouse, is she not? She puts me in mind of a young Rosie.

Being a performer myself, the BEST thing anyone who already has tickets to a DC concert can do to protest their remarks is to SHOW UP BUT MAKE NO NOISE WHATSOEVER. No applause, sit on your hands or fold them over your chest. Even better, face AWAY FROM THE STAGE. This will unnerve a performer more than signs, banners or boos.
Either that or eat the $65 and stay home.
To: lawnguy
Mike Gallagher is the guy setting up the "anti Dixie Chick" concert, I believe. You can be assured that the Carolina press will be covering it. Next week will be a big week for news in South Carolina, with the Dixie Chicks appearing in Greenville, the Marshall Tucker Band across town, and the DemocRATS holding a Presidential debate at University of South Carolina in Columbia at the Longstreet Theater. The Theater is named for the Confederate General Longstreet, a champion of slavery.

I'll give you 2 to 1 that the bodies you see on the cover of EW are of models with the Ditzy Chunks heads imposed on them.
