the campaign began against the band, who have helped to revive the popularity of country music over the last five years,....

Oh really, Country music was going down the tubes???

I don't think so....

I think this will also hurt them with their fellow CW artists. Let's see - Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, Reba, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Travis Tritt, Alabama, Billy Ray Cyrus, Sawyer Brown, plus dozens of new artists over the last five to ten years have had nothing to do with the resurgence of country music? Stupid, stupid, stupid. I believe people on this board are correct - they will either disband by the end of the summer or go totally pop. Like Sean Hannity said yesterday - doing covers of Fleetwood Mac was already an indication of their careers going down the tubes. This coincides with a theory of pop music that I have had for years. When an artist or group start to do cover songs, than their career if about over. Certain people can get away with it - Johnny Rivers, Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart. But as a general rule, when a person or group that has had a string of hits for a couple years, you hear them do a cover song, you can just about bet that it is over for them.

I remember a song by Alan Jackson a couple years back - Gone Country. He sings how other artists, at the end of their careers, go country to jump start their life and careers. A subtle putdown of those in CW who were not really country.
