The Dixie Chicks are fighting back if that is what compounding the mess that they are in can be called.
Those who have already previewed the appearance tonight on ABC's Primetime Live with Diane Sawyer say that they have failed miserably.
It's billed as an 'apology' but they don't really apologize.
They also take their clothes off for Entertainment Weekley because--and get the muddled thinking here--because 'It's not about nakedness, it's about clothes getting in the way of labels.' Huh??
They also cringe about death threats.
But the worst is Martie Maguire's relevation that her grandfather is being harassed at a nursing home. So long girls, have a nice life.. (back to playing in Mexican Restaurants)

And the other chicks are not that good looking either. Um, it's a matter of opinion, I suppose. I certainly lingered in looking at them for a moment.

I believe you are incorrect in comparing jane fonda fans to country music fans. There is a BIG difference.
To: ewing
The lead singer in that group seems to be demented to me, just nutso...and I've known some nutso lead singers, it's a requirement for the job. See: Vedder, Eddie; Roth, David Lee...

Sadly, I do not believe their careers will suffer that much....a majority of people do not put their money where their mouths are....look at Jane Fonda. I'm not sure Jane Fonda made a movie without another big star in it ---I think she played it safe. I remember her playing in a movie with Dolly Parton, and her father ---but not with her as the only star. Sometimes careers do go up in smoke and the Dixie Chicks aren't giving these "apologetic" interviews for no reason.

Hell, I get an occasional death threat too, and I'm not even "a celebrity." 'Course, I don't have layers upon layers of bodyguards, alarm systems, and security screens around me like the shark jumping Chicks do.

Yes, if I say, "I'm sorry I called you a turd, I meant to say you smell like a turd". You haven't made much of an apology.

I wonder how much they paid the body doubles used in that photograph?

OK, it's pretty clear the Entertainment Weekly editors digitally removed around 30lbs from Natalie Maines.

Look at where the brunettes head is connected to the body. This is about the worst photoshopping I have seen since TV Guide put Oprah Winfrey's head on Ann Margaret's body.

"...The cover is an obvious (and cheap) attempt to use sex in making them appear as victims. I quit asking myself, "How much lower can they go?" It is absurd, but it seems they'll continue to stoop down into a botomless pit..." No, this will be the new modus operandi for public figures when their public comments are called into question. Say something on public policy that creates an uproar, make a few additional public comments in defense of your original comment, do an interview in a national publication with a nude cover photo to solidify the gravitas of your original comment in the public's mind.
I understand Sen. Santorum is planning an interview with a nude cover for Newsweek and Time next week.

It looks like they've declared war on their fans. ..Nothing comes between me and my free speech...(no, not even common sense).
To: ewing
It's not right that they are getting death threats.
(of course, they did have a hit record about murdering a guy, but I digress). Nobody is denying Natalie Maines or Tim Robbins or anyone else the right to say whatever damn fool thing they want to say. No...this is about THE MONEY!
They are paying a price for what they said so they are posturing as victims. Disgusting!

I remember the same singers add Hank Williams SR, Grandpa Jones, Mini Pearl, and Johnny Horton, to the list. I'm only 54. I've never heard the Blixie Chickens sing, this modern "country ROCK" just not to my taste. I perfer Blue Grass.

I agree with you 100% that country music fans are, in large part, not of the same cut of cloth as others, however, I can tell you that I can pick up my local paper and still find adds by people looking for DC tickets. I HOPE that the concerts are 50% attended, but I doubt it.
To: demkicker
It is absurd, but it seems they'll continue to stoop down into a botomless pit. When you find yourself at the bottom of a hole you've dug yourself, Rule 1 is, "Stop Digging."

Yes, by taking off their clothes I am sure to focus on what they are saying.... ;]

I agree with you. I don't think the speaking-out by ANY of the "celebrities" is going to do any damage to their respective careers - unfortunately. Your mentioning Jane Fonda is very appropriate. Good grief! She even won an Oscar after her traitorous behavior in Vietnam. So much for the American public.
Fox News just showed the cover while playing "Wide Open Spaces".

Go to ebay and search for "dixie chicks tickets" and see what you come up with. There's about 800 individual offers to sell.
