Career / Job / Employment Networking Thread

This thread was inspired by a post on the OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM thread.
One freeper posted that he was searching for work as an engineer and another was curious if there was a "help wanted" thread on FR.
Considering FR is a supportive community beyond simply a news/comment forum, I'd like to start this thread and encourage persons looking for work to post here.
I would expect that lengthy personal interaction (refinement of qualifications, giving of phone numbers, etc.) should go to FR MAIL.
One side benefit of this thread is an improvement in signal/noise ratio on other threads.

Sadly, due to the utter incompetence of Gray Davis, I will soon be joining the ranks of the unemployed.
Anyone need a really good Telecom Manager?

I know Time Warner is hiring in and around Orlando alot lately. Orlando and Jax are good for tech jobs right now.

Looks good to me, as long as we don't get headhunters raiding for a fee.
Some of us behind corporate firewalls are hesitant to look at web pages that have the words "Employment Networking" in the title bar.

I'm a headhunter and I specialize in Engineering. I work with companies mostly in the northeast. If anyone is interested, please Freep Mail me and I'd be happy to do what I can. There, of course, is no charge to you; the companies pay for the service.

Afternoon from wet, cold NE Ohio..
Since it was I that suggested this thread this morning I did want to let you know initial thoughts surrounded a post re: an seriously injured GI in Germany..the main reason was for perhaps the transition of our GI's to civilian life, esp the permanently injured ones locating sympathetic and patriotic employers.
My second thought was of course the networking aspects of this diverse & grey matter rich group. Not only full times jobs, but consulting, short term projects..
I know a regular to the Situation room also had lost his job due to downsizing & American Expatriot in Europe was out the end of May..
It semed to be that there might be some way to do this (and this is a wonderful start) is needed.. Not having the tech knowledge to set up this correctly as a side thread with both wants & needs would be nice.. (and not in a chat room type) thread.
With some luck those looking wont have to wade thru multilevel marketing & those work opportunities which are really scams to unload the little bit of residual cash in ones account , as start -up funds.
I can't imagine beginning a business & using the talents that this forum possesses... I can also see lots of enterprising endeavors coming forth..
Well good luck & God bless to those looking for opportunities and also to those looking for talent to complete their organization.

Well, we're in somewhat related industries. I work in EDA. I'll explain my interest in networking in a later post...
I know some people within my industry that sell OPC, Phase-Shift Mask and TCAD software tools. I'll see if they're aware of any fabs who are hiring. Beacuse I'm cautious -- keep any guesses as to who I work for out of this thread.
Now, supposedly MEMS is going to grow, so in "THEORY" you'll be in good shape. I know of a company named Coventor that is selling MEMS analysis products -- maybe there's an opportunity there?
There's a symposium called "MEMS and Advanced Packaging Technologies: Synergies and Convergence" coming up in Sunnyvale. I have an ad in front of me in Chip Scale Review magazine right now. You can go to MEPTEC site to learn more:
http://www.mepteconline.com/ Also, there are firms selling EDA software to fabs that might need tech help or apps engineers. There is another focus emerging in this field for "DFM" at the die level. Try the big guys like Cadence, Synopsys, Mentor, and there are smaller suppliers as well.
Also consider companies selling equipment to fabs. I think I saw either Ultratech Stepper (site ultratech.com) or Tessera (site tessera.com) were looking to hire a technical person to work with their sales team in Southern California. Can't remember which...
If you're not already familiar with dice.com, give that site a try.
