Help Desperate, Looking for a Puppy

I recently lost my little Cockapoo suddenly to pancreatitis and diabetes and have been searching everywhere for a small dog/puppy at a reasonable price and have had no luck. The area where I live has gotten so expensive only the rich and famous live here. The going price for a small mix poodle is $700.00 which I think is a lot of money. If I had it, of course, I would pay that. The pound dogs are for the most part big dogs or very old and sickly little ones.
It's a long shot, but you guys always have great input and I would be happy to hear your suggestions. Needless to say I am lost without this dog. My husband died 4 years ago and that little guy got me through a very rough time. Thanks for reading this.

They look like a tiny little 6 lbs doberman and they are the sweetest dogs ever created.

We recently had a very good experience through the AKC. There is usually a modest cost for the adoption.

How about a cat? Some cats, especially Siamese cats, are a lot like little dogs. They become dedicated and emotionally attached to their owners.
They're like little people!

My input, for what it's worth:
1. Buy a gerbil and pretend it's a small dog.
2. Freeze-dry your deceased pet and mount him on your television.
3. Get a job as judge at a dog show and then sneak out a tiny one when no one's watching.
4. Collect bottles and cans; redeem them at a pet store for the dog of your choice.
5. Tell your husband to bark like a dog.
6. Have a Freepathon with all proceeds going to a new puppy -- you can use PayPal.
7. Distract a professional dog walker, snip one of the leashes, and start running.
8. Stand outside a pet shelter and collect the strays from people before they get a chance to return them inside.
9. Try eBay.
1O. Stand in a nice neighborhood around suppertime, yell, "Muffy! Muffy!" and see who comes running.

I am totally against puppy mills, and can't imagine why anyone would want to grind up a puppy, anyway.

First, get a real dog. Any dog under 30 pounds is just a cat with a personality.Bump...It seems you rub a lot of FReepers the wrong way, but I gotta agree with you on this one.

Best recommendation would be to adopt a dog from a shelter. You will save a life, and if you want to shorten or eliminate the house-breaking-chewing when left unattended time period, get an adult dog! - Puppies are over-rated!

Do this and you'll perpetuate the misery of dogs being abused in puppy mills. Dittos for pet store dogs. I would be hard-pressed to not save an individual I know about already, so I don't even look there.

Lots of little dogs are rightfully wary of kids. Kids can be mean even when they don't intend to be, but especially so if they do intend to be. (The child of a friend of mine comes to mind, the little sociopath!) and small dogs are so vulnerable to being hurt. If I have had kids, I wouldn't get them anything more delicate than a Labrador... and even a Labrador needs to be protected from some of them.
