SAN DIEGO - Remains that washed ashore in the San Francisco Bay this week were those of Laci Peterson and her unborn child, California Attorney General Bill Lockyer said Friday night. Meanwhile, Scott Peterson was arrested in the disappearance of his wife, who was eight months pregnant when she was reported missing Christmas eve, a San Diego County Sheriff's deputy said Friday. The arrest came as Modesto police planned to announce a "significant" development in the search for his missing wife and son. Peterson was being transported to Modesto, said the deputy, who spoke on condition that his name not be used. The case intensified this week after the body of a woman and fetus washed ashore in San Francisco Bay. The state's DNA laboratory in Richmond has been "working 24-seven" to identify the remains, said Hallye Jordan, a spokeswoman for the state Attorney General's office. The lab was trying to confirm that the remains are those of Laci Peterson and the son she was due to bear in February. Scott Peterson, 30, has not been seen in public since the decomposed remains washed ashore in Richmond, 90 miles from the couple's Modesto home. The bodies were found one day and about a mile apart by people walking the shoreline. Scott Peterson's attorney, Kirk McAllister, had refused to disclose his client's whereabouts this week. McAllister did not immediately return a telephone message Friday from The Associated Press. Peterson had told police he last saw his 27-year-old wife Christmas eve as he left to go fishing at a Berkeley marina, which is three miles from where the bodies washed ashore. Modesto police seized his boat, pickup truck and nearly 100 items from the couple's house but had not formally named him as a suspect in his wife's disappearance.

As someone on Fox remarked, he was arrested at a golf course, and this while he knew that the two bodies recovered were being tested to see if they were his wife and infant son. Anyone "normal" and grieving would have been desperately seeking to find out if that was his missing family. He was playing golf, while her family were in deep grief and agony waiting.

Golf was a ruse.He was pulled over and arrested on the way to a golf course. He had just sold a memebership in a golf club for $25,000. He had made trips to mexico lately supposedly on business (he works for a fertilizer manufacturer in Mexico)but the business meeting didnt take place until after he returned home.He tried to sell his home, sold his wifes car.Grew a beard and darkened his hair. It all adds up to raising enough cash and altering his appearence and leave the country permanently and this was probably the weekend to leave. I will wager he was to be picked up at the golf course and transported across the border. You know they put a GPS transponder on his truck when it was confiscated and they monitored his cell phone while he was in San Diego. They gathered this info and busted him before he said adios.

I'll bet you're right. The police handled this quite well, imo, and I'll bet they've got a damning case with all the evidence they collected.
